SKD? Was a decent championship keeper, nothing special. We haven’t had a top keeper since Fraser pre injury, and prior to that it was Niemi in my opinion. Paul Jones was better than SKD <whistle>
Paul Jones was a quality keeper. I added SKD more because of how him and the rest of the team saw us promoted and how much I loved the team. He was a good keeper though and that game against Leeds when he pretty much singlehandedly won us the game is still etched on my memory.
He's no Shilton, and certainly not as good as Niemi or Flowers, but he gave our defenders confidence which has been noticeably absent since probably Boruc

Does anyone remember the Wales v Finland game with Jones in goal for Wales and Niemi in goal for Finland both Saints keepers at the time.

IMO KWP & Bednarek are the only two players under contract who i have confidence in being able to perform consistently at premier league level.

Then there is a large chunk who have the potential to do it, but have question marks for different reasons.
We definitely need a starting central midfielder and a striker.

Watching England u17s, Whatmuff as a goalkeeper would be great for bants and Nwaneri looks like he could do a job already.

Perraud can go, He isn't THAT good. He left at the first opportunity.

Only player I want of the loaned out is ABK, Shown he is a top talent at prem league level, Sort out the injury and he is a incredible defender.

O'Hare is a great shout though, I'd add Ben Johnson in for James Bree.

I’d be willing to give the benefit of the doubt to players who went on loan this season. They may have been doing the club a favour and not doing us dirty.

How great is reading this thread!!! Loads of rumours and the luxury of speculation on who we want to sign and who we want to keep.
Last year was horrendous. I couldn’t stop dipping back in to see if we had sold our Crown Jewels yet.

From club (and RM perspective) Bazunu is number one. Plays the style they want and fits the long term strategy.

I agree with all comments that having someone who is a little more commanding and assured really helps the back 4 but only way I can really see anyone other than McCarthy being that guy is if we get someone in on loan.

I really can't see the club spending £20m on a Kelleher or whatever. I just can't.

I'm in the McCarthy on a 1 year extension as 2nd choice but absolutely not 1st choice camp. Agree that rightly or wrongly, the club have all their eggs in Baz basket so it seems unlikely that we'll spend any significant outlay on a new number 1 for one season whilst Baz is out injured.
However, last season we saw that none of our GKs were good enough for the PL so I very much hope we can bring in someone who is good enough on a season long loan. We'll also need the money for all the other positions we are going to need to improve on.
Stay up and we can worry about Baz being good enough the following season when hopefully we will have more room to spend money on a GK as in theory, we'll have a decent spine of PL players in the team having just stayed up, and less need to spend the money elsewhere.

I just don’t think that camp is even there to be established for you to be part of in the minds of the club and player. I don’t think he signs for one year one second choice goalkeeper wages (substantially lower that what he has been on - likely at least half). He either looks for a first choice contract or a longer backup contract somewhere else. Unless there are no offers like that from somewhere he is prepared to move to.

He does seem limited by always being based in the south.

Oh yeah, that's just the ideal camp imo. Not that I think that's likely to happen. I think we either end up offering him a longer deal or he goes elsewhere. I just hope that we don't give him a longer deal in the pretext of being number 1.
