Milky go to Lokeys scouting report on YouTube and select Tanaka. He did the report back in June hoping we would go for him he has Tanaka above many prem players and above Hamer. Pound for prices cheap chips mate

May do that bud. I did 5 minute research last year and another 5 this. Mixed bag. Ipswich's boss likes him seemingly... but didn't buy him.

Like Hamer myself... proven in the division but priced accordingly! <cheers>

As someone who watches as many Fortuna games as I can and have done for years, Tanaka is in my opinion an ok player.

I posted on this thread back in May saying that I'd thought he'd struggle to make an impact, given we had 4 dm's at the time. Obviously we have let 2 of those go, so there is a role for him and I'm sure he will be a positive addition.

At the price that is being mentioned then I agree signing him is a no brainer, but I also can't say he stood out in the few games I managed to see him in last season.

As I originally stated when this thread was first created, I rate him the same as Kamara with the ability to get a few goals, but I would still expect Gruev and Ampadu to be the first choices for our holding midfield places.

What it does do is gives us cover that would allow Ampadu to slot in again at centre half if required and maybe an indication that the club expects Wober to be gone by close of the transfer window.

I won't get too excited about the signing, but it's also a solid signing for this level

Sky reporting :

Leeds United are in talks over a deal for St Gallen full-back Isaac Schmidt.

Leeds are hoping to secure a permanent transfer with an agreement close.

Wonder if he’s left footed:smiley-finger007:

Found this, so in short he isn't the ****ing left footed ****ing left back we desire. He's another ****ing right footed ****ing left back we don't need.

"As for Schmidt, he is super quick and has an excellent engine, which should provide something a bit different to Byram if he comes into the side. Despite being right-footed, more of his career has been at left-back,"

My thinking on Tanaka if anyone is interested.

I've watched 1 full game of his specifically watching him play. That was last summer btw when we were linked with him. I've also seen a few highlights and obviously remembered the name. I have limited knowledge on the guy so obviously I can now give you a full lowdown. :emoticon-0105-wink:

He's a runner. Lots of energy. Box to box lad and persistent with it. That means he might get the odd goal which is an improvement on last seasons midfield. He won't get 10 goals, he'll get a handful or so if he plays every game. He would improve the balance of the team and help us connect defence to attack. He is an 8 and not a 10. He won't play the double pivot, he would have to be deployed further forward. He can pick a forward pass and likes to arrive late in the box. He has quick feet and a good football brain on him. Does the simple things really well which is harder than it sounds.

My concerns are that he isn't really exceptional at anything. He's not over quick, his short passing is good, long passing is average, he's not the strongest, he's not good in the air and I don't believe he is technically as good as Gruev or Ampadu on the ball.

He's never played at Championship level and I'm not sure he can thrive whilst getting chunks kicked out of him. He's never played more than 30 league games a season.

I'm not saying he's a bad signing, I just think it's a tough league to adapt to. I said the same of Gruev but he adapted great after a tough start. I think Tanaka might be a similar story for us in the fact he won't hit the ground running.

Hope I'm wrong and he wins the player of the season award. I just have my reservations. I think he will be a squad player maybe getting 10-15 starts all season.

For the price he's worth a shot, and he's got 27 caps so can't be without something in a side ranked around 18th in FIFA table <doh>

I'm not saying he is ****. He is a good player. We've probably got him cheap and will undoubtedly get our money back when we decide to sell.

I'm trying to say that in my opinion he isn't better than Gruev and Ampadu. Rothwell likes to play further forward as an 8 and that's what this guy brings to the table. He is another 8. Rothwell has the headstart as he's had a pre season here, knows the tactics, knows the lads and has a few minutes under his belt. It may take time for Tanaka to settle. The Championship is much more physical and faster than anything he has played before. It's also a step up in levels regarding the players he will come up against.

Who knows, Farke might have a formation in mind where he can fit Gruev, Ampadu and Tanaka in midfield but he's not done that with Rothwell as yet. Maybe he only wants Ampadu to play defensive midfield and have Tanaka playing slightly more forward. That would kind of disarm our full backs from going forward as there would be less insurance at the back without Gruev playing.

We'll wait and see but I don't see Tanaka starting for a couple of months or so. He does add a bit of depth though.

For contrast, a Billing or Hamer would walk straight in to our starting XI against Burnley after the international break. I don't think Tanaka will be anywhere near.

Isaac Schmidt becoming more prominent as the full back option.

Looks a pure athlete. Very quick, very strong. Has an eye for goal and although predominantly right footed has played on either wing as a full back or even winger. He's also played in midfield and as an emergency striker.

He's very much an upgrade of Byram and a much more attacking threat. Byram to shore things up and Schmidt if we need a goal.

This would be a very good gamble in my opinion.
