It's the nature of the sport. Injuries can happen to any player, any time. Hence large squads.

I wonder if an insurance policy is in place to cover some, or all, of the wages.

Running a professional football Club is very expensive for the owners.

Kris O’Leary has joined the Swansea City first-team coaching staff ahead of the 2022-23 season.

The 44-year-old takes on the position of first-team coach, having held the role on an interim basis over the final months of last season in addition to his responsibilities with the Swansea under-23 squad.

It continues the former midfielder’s lengthy relationship with his boyhood club.

O’Leary played 334 games for the club over a 15-year spell, winning three promotions during his time at both the Vetch Field and Liberty Stadium.

The former midfielder had previously coached in the club’s academy as well as in the first-team setup; O’Leary was part of Garry Monk’s coaching staff during the 2014-15 season that saw the club finish eighth in the Premier League.

“He shows an unbelievable care for what we are trying to do and the people at this football club,” said head coach Russell Martin.

“He knows what this club stands for, he played for it and experienced the transition under Roberto Martinez.

Swansea City is delighted to announce the signing of Joe Allen, subject to international clearance.

The move sees the 32-year-old make a return to his boyhood club, who he served with great distinction during a first spell that saw him rack up 150 senior appearances after coming through the academy ranks.

Allen has signed a two-year contract and will wear the number seven shirt.

The Wales international featured for the Swans from his debut against Blackpool on the final day of the 2006-07 season through to the end of the club's maiden season in the Premier League before making a move to Liverpool.

He scored seven goals during that time, including a memorable strike in a south Wales derby in 2009.

Welcome back Joe - spoke to you last a week or so after you joined Brendan at Liverpool - we were in the lift together at the St David’s Hotel in Cardiff Bay <cheers>

I think he'll be a good re-signing still a bit left in the tank and will feel his feet and at home quickly if other good players and manager around him.

Fair play to the social team, the announcement video did make me giggle. Obafemi is a bit nuts!

I agree with you. Excellent signing.

WELL DONE TO THE OWNERS OF SWANSEA CITY FOOTBALL CLUB.

Alien words around here, but perhaps they'll slip through unnoticed.

I think I got away with it. <laugh>
