Swansea City is delighted to announce Andy Parslow has joined Russell Martin’s backroom team as a set-piece coach.

Parslow joined up with the players and staff at Pennyhill Park earlier this week as the first-team squad stepped up their pre-season programme in Surrey.

The 31-year-old was most recently with AFC Wimbledon, who he joined in 2019, initially working with their academy.

After impressing with the Dons’ junior teams Parslow was promoted to work with the first-team midway through the 2020-21 season, initially with attacking set-pieces before taking on the role as restarts coach for the then-League One side.

Prior to his arrival, AFC Wimbledon had scored the lowest number of goals from attacking set-pieces across the 2019-20 season, as well as conceding the second highest number of goals from defending set plays during the same season.

However, by October 2021 the Dons had scored the most goals from set pieces of any club in the Premier League and EFL, going on to finish the campaign with the joint-most goals scored from wide free-kicks in the country.

During his time at Plough Lane they also almost halved the amount of goals conceded from set pieces during the 2021-22 season compared to 2020-21.

Jamie Paterson has put pen to paper on an extension to his Swansea City contract that will keep the midfielder at the club until the summer of 2024.

The 30-year-old enjoyed an outstanding first season in Swansea colours last term, racking up nine goals and nine assists despite only arriving in SA1 on the eve of the campaign.

The former Nottingham Forest and Bristol City playmaker signed an initial one-year deal with the Swans, with the club then taking up an option to trigger an additional 12 months through to 2023 in January of this year.

Now terms have been agreed on an improved deal through to the end of June 2024, sealing the longer-term future of a player who has been an influential and popular figure on and off the pitch under head coach Russell Martin.

“I think it’s a really big signing for us - it almost feels like a new signing,” said Martin.

“I think he deserves it, it’s a reward for his willingness to take onboard new ideas. He’s really important in the dressing room in terms of his character, and the energy he has.

“[He knows] he’s going to be part of the plan over the next couple of years which will be important for him because when he feels comfortable and has a sense of belonging, he plays his best football.

It seems like only yesterday he was being vilified and abused by a large number of Swans' fans'. <laugh>

Swansea City has completed the signing of Matty Sorinola on a season-long loan from Union SG, subject to international clearance.

The 21-year-old winger or wing-back becomes the third summer signing for head coach Russell Martin, following the arrivals of defenders Nathan Wood and Harry Darling.

Lambeth-born Sorinola, who is of Nigerian descent, joins for the entirety of the 2022-23 campaign and will bolster Martin’s wide options following the departures of Cyrus Christie and Hannes Wolf.

Martin has previously worked with Sorinola - who is versatile and can play on either flank - during his time in charge of MK Dons.

The player spent time in the youth ranks at Fulham before joining the MK academy in 2017, going on to sign a first professional deal in 2019.

He made his debut in a Football League Trophy clash with Manchester City in October of that year, and it would prove to be his only appearance at MK where Martin was not his manager.

Sorinola went on to enjoy a breakthrough campaign during the 2020-21 season, making 43 appearances in total as MK Dons won plaudits for their attractive style of play.

However, he left the club during the summer of 2021 to join Belgian top-flight side Royale Union St Gilloise.

Sorinola scored once in 14 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League, and will be looking to get regular game time under his belt with the Swans.

So, it looks like Downes is on his way to Crystal Palace, with Allen returning to Swansea.

It's what sensible businesses do. Football fans', however, are seemingly unable to grasp that little fact, and just want the Club they support to spend, spend, and then spend some more. Utter lunacy. They wouldn't be so profligate with their own money.
