I definitely want JWP to stay, but there's a long argument to be had that four signings, all at circa £20m, would be better than one Ward-Prowse (this scenario assumes we get £40-£50m for him and add it to our current transfer budget).

The other option, which is what the current plan seems to be, is to keep JWP and sign three or four players at circa £10m each.

Anyway, there's no reliable journalist reporting this so there's nothing to worry about really (yet).

It really isn't fair - even when we're **** we still have to put up with these rumours. It came with the territory when we were knocking on the the door of the top 6 but it would be nice to be left alone now! :(

I wouldn't be hugely fussed if he did go if it was for some massive fee (like Tom said £50m or something). If we sold him for something like £20m then different scenario. I think we definitely could be better with £50m invested in the team and no JWP, but it is a big gamble as most of the fanbase wouldn't be happy selling him full stop and our recruitment would have to be good to get the right players in

I don't really want to see him go, but I do think Romeu and Diallo is probably our most balanced midfield pairing and it opens up a pathway for Jankewitz too. I never felt too comfortable with JWP in a defensive midfield pairing because he lacks that defensive presence and physicality. If we can get £40-50m and reinvest the bulk of that in to some full backs, forwards and a keeper I think we'll be in a better place going forward.

It's always a gamble to sell a proven and consistant performer as JWP is (last season's POTS) and it's still fresh in the memory that the windfall from selling VVD was completely pissed up against the wall on the likes of Carrillo, Hoedt and Mo El.

Wannabe ITK (AKA ****-Pot) sits at home and opens a Twitter account called ‘Southampton FC Updates @TheSaintCentre’ and peppers the account with pictures and rumours lifted from the internet. ****-Pot uses the account to gain followers and his ego is massaged, people believe he is ITK. Job done and fake news gains yet another foothold in the world, which is already sinking under the strain of bullshit and bollocks.

JWP to Villa is about as likely as me getting a shag with Kylie Minogue.

    100% not happening.

Yeah, it is whether you trust our recruitment team to spend the money well I suppose. Using the rumours currently floating around we could get Armstrong, Perraud, Williams and Delaney and about £5m for JWP if we get £50m for him. It also sounds like we have a bit of a cash as we are looking at these players anyway, so could potentially go for more expensive options than those if we wanted to.

I don't think it is likely to happen anyway (definitely not for £50m) so just some speculation

If we sold Prowse for £50m, based on our previously history. when you take out tax and stuff, I feel like we would buy two £20m players with the money, one would flop and one would maybe be at JWP's level.

So for me I would rather just keep JWP.

You can talk about Villa splashing the cash, but for me, ive seen several 'lower' teams do that and they rarely challenged Europe for any real length of time. Only team that has actually managed it is Leicester and they did it by not selling all their best players.

The only thing that worries me is if we did sell some of our players for big money given the current climate would all the money be reinvested in the squad?

Leicester have sold a few but always come up trumps with great replacements, I wish that our recruitment was half as good as theirs

The more I think about it, the more I really want this to happen. Only 24, 28 goals in 40 games in a very mediocre team last season. And (assuming Danny is still here next season) we'll have another natural finisher in the squad.

Agreed. He would be pretty cheap compared to the numbers being chucked about for Toney, despite the fact he scored a few less for a much worse team.

It would be a shrewd buy, Someone who is competant at scoring a lot of goals in a mediocre team.. And should the worse happen that Ings walks for a free.. We have a replacement who has time to bed in to the squad.
