Yeah, the stock price change really only affects the owner's pocketbook if they sell shares. It also illustrates the extent to which share price for sports teams is divorced from the thing that is supposed to drive share prices, namely the financial performance of the club. Buying a 35 year old for big money, even a player who is about as good as anyone in his age cohort has ever been, isn't likely to be a massive financial windfall. But people -- including likely some institutional investors -- want to own a part of the club at the moment because it's cool and fun to do so, rather than the company's bottom line.
You're seriously underestimating the value that Ronaldo brings from a branding/marketing perspective. Him and Messi pay for themselves in that sense.
I think this is now all going into the Premier League thread and this one be kept for Saints rumours (I know I am guilty of posting Ronaldo stuff in here)
I'll admit that I hadn't seen that the fee was just £20m including add-ons; I'd expected it to be three times that given the prices that had been suggested when PSG was sniffing around. So yeah, it probably is a net financial gain if they're paying (in fee/wages/agent bribe) £40-50m a year for his services. But not enough of one to justify the share price skyrocketing, which is largely on hype.
Wolves have apparently made a €15m bid for Caleta Car . If that is what he actually goes for then it makes our lack of an attempt to sign him really strange But I suspect they are trying to bring a fee down and given how this usually works they likely have a starting positions of 25-30m and wolves hope to meet in the middle Also the same agency represents him as a bunch of our players so we are likely keenly aware of the ballpark of his contract demands I expect we are concerned about another Hoedt - 15m+ potentially wanting big money and a five year deal The Lyanco decision still intrigues me but time will tell on that
The minute they walk through the door and leave they're forgotten as far as I am concerned. They are no longer anything to do with our club and I do not want to see them back again. Mercenary bastards the lot of them.
Surprised we dont go in for loftus cheek or winks. Both cam play in the number 6 role and likely to be available on loan
Cant get near RLC’s wages. His fitness is a big issue. Also we can’t loan another Chelsea player so it is a moot point Is winks really available for loan? He’s always seemed a bit of a nothing player. Since we play with two we need someone with bite in our number 6 role
They are both great midfielders, with their different strengths. I’m just trying to decide who is the best out of both of them, but all it makes me think about is how good Morgan Schneiderlin was for us. Genuinely feel like he had PEH’s energy plus Romeu’s skill on the ball plus even better passing ability. In his last season for us he was one of the best DMs I’ve ever seen. Surprised it never worked for him elsewhere.
I'd be happy with Winks. But now they've sold Sissoko to Watford, I can't see Spurs letting another CM go.
He was a class above. Strange how it worked out for him. Can’t say he should of stayed as we turned to **** unfortunately! He’d be perfect right now though.
