Always wonder what is wrong with being motivated by money. Everyone else in the world is, so seems illogical to expect footballers of all people not to be. They obviously can't come out and say that, so they never do - but generally get roasted for it when it comes to pass. There is more to it, though - Saints were offering him a big pay hike and he turned that down. In all likelihood he wouldn't have dropped down a division if a club offered him more than Villa. A bigger offer wasn't looking likely in the end, and he probably thought Villa's trajectory over the next few years looked better than Saints too, so am sure that factored in too, with the added benefit of more money. Its possible he was sold a more exciting vision of Villa than he saw under a Gao-owned Saints.
Yep, it’s so easy for us fans to get caught up in the emotion- in fact I’d suggest it has to be that way for us otherwise there’s no point in being a loyal supporter. For the players, though, it’s their job and which one of us wouldn’t want to better ourselves? As noted, Ings knows the real inside of Saints that we can only speculate about. Villa, unlike Saints, are a ‘sleeping giant’, the biggest club in England’s second city- immense catchment area so their potential is immense. Wouldn’t trade Saints for any of that myself though
Yeah time to move on from the thoughts that JWP is a one club man. He will likely be off next summer. Probably already had conversations with the club about his future. Don't think he'll go this summer, but if Villa do actually come in with a big offer for him then who knows. No doubt we will play harder ball about selling this summer than we did with Ings though.
The Athletic claim RB Leipzig’s Alexander Sorlorth is also an option for Hasenhuttl's side. #confused.com
Southampton have made contact with PSV over 19 year old attacker, Noni Madueke. The Eredivisie side are willing to depart with the youngster, if their €20 million price tag is met. This is from the same same site that yesterday morning said that Ings was to join Villa, when no one else was reporting. Also Nixon has tweeted that where Armstrong wants to go, will also be a factor in the pursuit of the Blackburn striker
This is probably Danny Ings last big move. You would have thought he would have wanted to play in Europe or win a trophy. Villa aren't in Europe and can't guarantee a trophy and spending big doesn't guarantee success. I doubt he needs much more money to see out the next sixty years or so of his life in comfort so he probably wants to achieve something in football other than big pay days. Not everyone is motivated by money. Money isn't my sole motivation. If another company offered me more I won't necessarily take it if meant I would be less happy in my job.
l hope we buy the dm/cb Ralph wants first, stop us splurging too much on Armstrong/Blackburn holding out for close to the Ings fee.
Nothing agreed by any club. If they are willing to pay £20m for a championship striker with 1 year left on his contract then we can't compete. I think he is a fantastic player but not sure he is worth £20m
Normally I’d agree, but we’ve just got the money for ings and we are now desperate for a finisher If Ralph thinks this lad can finish and fit his system, then throw the cheque book at Blackburn and get it done imo.
