Think the club will wait until after the Burnley game to do any deals. Different players hinting at loans all the time, especially as euros will now be next summer. We can have a maximum of 2 loans from 2 different clubs. Think there will be a lot of wheeling and dealing in the last week from a majority of premier league clubs, especially as most don’t have the money of the top 4 or 5 clubs. For example, we could sell Bednarek to Chelsea, and in return sort a loan deal out for Rudiger, who has said that he will be looking to leave on loan for the season to play regular football as he is desperate to keep his place in the German squad for the euros. Think these kind of out there deals could be common next week??
Yeah, with the importance placed on CM. Whatever budget we are working off, I would hope it would all go toward a CM - with a loanee covering out wide.
I'm just hoping that Salisu is all he's cracked up to be otherwise we might be seeing another 60+ in the GA column.
Tbf that is promising from Ralph. 1 or 2 signings definitely on the way and he said maybe even 3 - so at least we have some budget and are aware that Hojbjerg needs properly replacing. Plus Salisu is still yet to feature, so he will hopefully add to the side too.
Not necessarily SA - they may just not be ready, and he is starting to get Tella involved, who reminds me of a younger Saka from Arsenal (who is himself only about 18)
Counting through the squad, we have 24 with squad numbers (inc. 4 GKs). You'd expect Boufal and one GK to leave this window. A squad of 22 is very slight. Those 22 cover 2 in every position with the exception of CM (only JWP and Romeu). If we persist with 4-2-2-2 then we need two more CMs minimum in my opinion. This is working on the premise that Armstong/Smallbone would only be used there in extreme circumstances (due to the defensive responsibilities of the middle two). I don't consider Stephens a viable option there either (but happy to be proved wrong at some point). Of those backups, only Vestergaard, Long, Djenepo and Salisu are arguably 'experienced' players. The rest are from our academy. If we don't get 2 strong/fit central midfielders and a winger (probably reliant on Boufal going) minimum, assuming no other exits, then I'd fear for us. A couple of injuries, a sprinkling of suspensions and the odd covid-19 case and we really will be struggling to put out a team that could compete. I think Ralph has every right to call it out in a press conference. He doesn't deserve to be thrown under the bus!
You guys are reading far too much into Ralph’s comments. Saying he is not happy with the squad (he wants a couple more) should not be interpreted as being unhappy with existing squad members. He’s already stated he likes what he sees in the academy and has changed things to make sure they get more opportunities with the first team.
West Ham looking at Vestegaard. https://insidefutbol.com/2020/09/24/west-ham-exploring-loan-move-for-southampton-defender/474024/ Now whatever Vestegaard has done or not done I don't think he deserves to go to West Ham! That is centre half hell. Ask Jose Fonte. Not even Hoedt is going to West Ham.
