Or he wanted a small squad of his players. He still has the same players we had when he arrived (in the main)
I beg to differ. Macarthy looks bloody awful! Really unsure of himself. Yes we have Forster, but if Butland can get back to his old form, it could be a masterstroke.
That was rumoured weeks ago. Nothing new. (Except for Stoke playing their first two league games of the season since then, with Butland on the bench for both.)
Posted this on match thread, but probably makes more sense here. https://www.prostinternational.com/...eres-no-money-southampton-are-risking-it-all/
We came back from 9-0 and turned our season around. We can bounce back from three poor performances and results this season. But to do that we need a winger and a CM. Salisu being the next Maldini would help too. CM is vital, winger is pretty important. Can’t underestimate how a new signing will make the current players up their game too.
@fran-MLs little camera must be a multi-millionaire the amount of time she spends hidden behind the sofa, so maybe ask her
Perhaps it was just masking over the cracks before. Today’s game today was quite similar in places to a lot of those “great” performances in lockdown. We always looked vulnerable to a team hitting us hard and fast. Our best defensive display was when we had to defend deep against City. I’m beginning to think Ralph plays the press to keep the ball up the other end as he knows we are weak defensively. With a press, you have to squeeze high and especially with our CMs who aren’t quick. It’s been a gamble that got some good results, but could easily h e gone the other way earlier.
I've no issues with wanting a small squad. What he wants is a small squad plus some youngsters as backup if needed. What he's got is a small squad including some youngster as backup.
