He's got a far less stellar scoring record. He's older. Criticised for a lack of physical strength. Formally dubbed "the worst forward of the world" by Spanish media. Sounds like a far better idea.
He doesn't have a bad scoring record at all, and he's in a much better league. He's been a Valencia regular for the past three years, and they've done well. I don't know which Spanish media you're referring to but they sound pretty stupid.
Jonas and Pelle could actually complement each other quite nicely if Koeman had an open mind to playing two up front every so often.
El Mundo Deportivo, oldest sports newspaper in Spain (apparently!). Only once did he score more than 15 league goals in a season. I'm not writing him off completely, but I don't think he would rate as that impressive a signing.
But it's not an either/or situation. We need another striker...Pelle isn't stopping him from coming. At this moment, Pelle is a Saints' player...that's getting pretty rare. And as Ron is going to have to build a new team, it seems sensible to let him have players like Pelle that he is familiar with.
Sky Sports News, the most popular sports channel in Britain, described Rickie Lambert as an overweight pile of **** that would struggle to score five goals in the Premier League. Now if we're being more precise we'd point out it was Paul Merson who said it and it thus never meant anything, but it shows the value of taking one journalist's opinion to be too significant.
No one is saying that. We are merely comparing. And in some respects it is an either/or as we generally believe there will be one up front this season. One of them will be favoured if both are here. No problem.
I really don't think we're likely to be signing a striker this summer who can give us more than 15 goals in a top division. But if we can have two or three who are capable of double figures - Jay, Jonas, Ings if we get him too, and who knows, maybe Pelle, then we'll be decent up top. Besides, Jonas is a creator too. I'm not even going to consider the possibility of getting a striker who can get 20+ goals. I'll be very pleasantly surprised if we do.
This is more about illustrating the difference between a direct, attributable quote and exaggeration for sarcastic effect!
We did alright te first season with one Ayer in double figures and we did ok last season with two in double figures. We don't necessarily need a 20+ goals a season striker and as Joe mentions above, are unlikely to get one of those. If someone turns out to be that unexpectedly... Bonus.
More waffle from you, DTLW. Just say it as it is! Have to say, slightly disappointed. When I saw you as the last poster I thought there may be some genuine news. Should know better, shouldn't I? Jeez, the phoney transfer window is doing my head in.
How about a captions thread, DTLW? I know I am getting a reputation as a bit of a techy these days , but still can't post a photo. Haven't had one for a while...and (if we resist mention of Liverpool) it could lighten the mood.
