Tommomo, that's a great post. I've been thinking about this today and came up with similar conclusions. It'll be very hard to get like for like replacements for players sold given that the players leaving are all going to be playing CL and potential replacements will want the same.

We have to take risks with unproven players that bigger clubs wouldn't go for (bit like Lovren was last year) and hope they perform. At the same time, bring through the youngsters.

Harry Redknapp says the problem with English football is that English players get too much too soon, and too much for being average.

Nearly choked on my toast when I saw that in the news this morning.

    Thanks.

I understand the difficulty to a degree albeit from an outsiders perspective...we need to bring in replacements and add to the depth of the roster however having finished 8th the only place to go (in a positive way) is into the realm of the traditional powerhouses. Despite our sales we lack funding and a reputation as a stalwart top end club. Which means that a lot of the guys we need to compete are either out of our price range or will be targeted by the more historically iconic clubs.

Academy players can fill some gaps to a degree but a lot of the time this means taking a greater gamble on foreign or tarnished players and hoping that the scouts, statisticians have done their homework. None of it is ideal but unfortunately the EPL system hands greater rewards to the already successful clubs meaning that monopoly is really hard to break.

If we sell Snidders for less than £25m someone on the board needs shooting!
Snidders is of the same quality (if not higher) as Twatbeard and Lovren.
Not only that but that price will frighten Wenger off

6 Shakhtar players have gone AWOL in France after a pre season game as they don't want to return to Ukraine apparently down to the political unrest there. Dentinho, Alex Teixera, Douglas Costa, Fred, Facundo Ferreyra and one unidentified player are supposedly the players.

It's probably already been said, but I wonder how many transfers in are being delayed/hampered/called off, simply as a result of the constant barrage of negativity in the press.
Just when things began to improve, the media have started again with the rumours.

With regards to the players that won't commit to longer contracts or agitate to leave, would it be terribly unethical, to have them knee capped?
This way we getting the following
    1. Saints receive a fee from the insurance company, whilst getting rid of a trouble causing ****bag.
    2. Said ****bags leave the club, they now seem to detest, picking up an insurance pay out, and possibly an early pension.
    3. The fans see troublesome ****bags leave, knowing that they won't have to watch them performing for other clubs, for ridiculous wages.

    Works for me

    Someone over on SaintsWeb posted...

"Or maybe we're leaking that we're after "lesser" players whilst we do the real deals for the "star" players in the background, thereby keeping the "lesser" players interested just in case the chase for the "star" players fall through"

    Guan 2.0 replied...

    "Wouldn't that be something?"

    Guan 2.0 also posted:

"From what i am told, we are trying to learn from previous mistakes. When we approached Osvaldo, it was obvious he liked the idea of money, and little else we had to offer. Had we not been putting money by for him (as a named target of the incoming manager), we may not have had to sign the compromise that was Forren at an earlier date.

So now we are approaching all of our first choice targets simultaneously, trying to keep it as quiet as possible. We may be 'noisy' in regards to lesser players, which i suppose is part and parcel of the game now (anybody remember McManaman at Madrid first time? He wasn't too proud to come in when they meant it though).

Of course, until we fully change the perception surrounding the club, which we are actively striving to, every man and his dog will be trying to portray us in the press as a crisis club, and try and unsettle our players.

I just ask between now and the 3rd of August that the fretting is kept to a sensible minimum. I would hate to see threads started calling Saints a 'joke club' or claiming we are the 'laughing stock of English football, every time the Daily star links Morgan with Juventus."

Sounds to me like things aren't going quite as hoped or that things are taking slightly longer than anticipated. Still optimistic though!

    I can't see a downside to this plan :)
