I am convincing myself that this talk of Vlaar is just Ron's cover story while he sneaks in and signs De Vrij :)

I really cannot see anyone seriously considering to buy Jayrod at the moment. Saints would want a high price and his wages would be top dollar. So at a guess it would mean adding at least about another million to the asking price before he has even played!!
I think it more likely they would come after him after he is nursed back to health and back to his scoring ways.
We just have a few journo's trying to stir Saints up.

I don't mind Vlaar but I do think there's a reason to be concerned if Koeman only goes for players who are Dutch or from the Dutch league.

Especially amid concerns he struggles to adapt his tactics for non-Dutch teams.

Manager's tend to employ their preferred tactics regardless of what league they're managing in. But your right in that he hasn't been too successful with non Dutch teams, hopefully he will adapt quicker here with the English language/culture than that of Spain and Portugal.

One thing I think is interesting is that it seems pretty likely to me that Koeman has more influence on transfers than Poch or especially Adkins did. For all the talk from Reed and Krueger about our extensive scouting network and pre-identified targets we've so far only signed a guy who played for Koeman last year and the guy who Koeman called the best player in the Dutch league while a lot of our reported targets seem to be "Koeman guys".

I know there's still 4 weeks till the new season, and well over a month of the window left blah blah blah, but I would have hoped we would have had a few players more in by now. We needed to strengthen this summer regardless of departures, but now 3 of our first team have left, we need to replace those as well (Pelle and Tadic have done so to some extent). We need another LB, and another forward considering that Osvaldo has gone AWOL and Rodriguez out for a few months yet.

I'm not panicking or being Mr negative here, just I hope, being realistic about our position - we are net 1 down first teamer from last season. I'm not saying do a QPR and buy every player going for the sake of it, but with Krueger and Reed harping on about how great our recruitment team are (scouting, negotiating etc.), we should have laid the ground work many weeks ago, and deals should be getting wrapped up, especially for a club that needed a large amount of incoming players, like ourselves.

Koeman will have final say of course, no doubt he would have had to review a lot of tapes himself on Ings etc The players he knows in Tadic & Pelle would not have needed that research.

Osvaldo would have been a Poch signing and Adkins got Forte & had worked previously with Sharp & Cork. Think our managers have had a big say on the incomings

Agree with you but it would of been tricky bringing in players without a new manager in place. But yes I will be concerned too if we don't strengthen TEAM soon, especially if we lose Lovren as expected and god forbid not Morgan as well.

So, no deals are being made right now? Come on homie, there are certainly bids in and negotiations ongoing. Remember, we are buying players that clubs want to hold on to, there's a lot of bargaining time left so there's not any incentive for clubs to rush through their business just yet.

My worry is the lack of prem experience it looks like our team could have by the start of the season. That is key in this league and we need people to be hitting the ground running. Like last year we have winnable games at beggining of season and a tough run Nov/Dec. If we get off to a bad start then we could find ourselves in a sticky situation come xmas.

Lovren had no Premiership experience when we signed him and we're about to flog him for more almost three times what we paid.

How much Premiership experience did we lose? Shaw, Lambert and Lallana only played 2 years in the league, Lovren only had 1. We'll end up with a similar amount of Premiership experience to what we had before.

    Boruc

    Chambers - Fonte - Yoshida - Clyne

    Wanyama

    Cork - Davis

    Tadic - Pelle - Ramirez

This could potentially be our starting XI at Liverpool and you probably don't want to see the bench. We have it from the ITKs that deals are in the delicate stages of negotiation. I do hope we wrap some up this week as the sooner the better, but it's not panic stations as some players are still on holiday

And it could very easily be:

    Boruc

    Chambers - Fonte - Vlaar - Clyne

    Wanyama

    Cork - Schneiderlin

    Tadic - Pelle - Ings

Which is actually a lineup that I like the look of!

I imagine its rather complicated for a club like saints who want to achieve growth to find players good enough that are also interested in joining us for several reasons.

    1. Unlike the top clubs who can offer European football and others (like Man u) who have enough clout to be able to be a top target for almost any player in the world saints are more in the middle which means the club has to slog it out, negotiate and fend off competition meaning it takes longer and has a lower success rate.

    2. Even if a player is interested there's usually a domino effect that has to take place for the transfer to be approved by the seller (once they get a replacement for that player from another club who also need to replace etc etc) so that takes time too.

It's frustrating to watch especially when you see clubs like Liverpool bring in new players by the container full but its a fact we need to deal with and hope/believe that the management are actively involved and have contingencies in place.

But I'm sure and hope your right in that we will have wrapped up some deals soon, can't handle the suspense.

This is exactly right. Remember, we are part of the food chain here, not at the top.
