We definitely need a left back even if Targett is good to play as I really wouldn't want Clyne wasted there. It's ok if we need to shuffle the back in game, but not for a few games in a row.
Timotee seems decent value and the right age to move straight to 1st team football

I think he's a solid option. Did well in the WC.

 

I can understand the Villa fans being pissed off...I would be if a player went the other way. Although I obviously think Saints are the better club, it isn't an obvious step up like going to United etc. I suppose money talks.

 

Vlaar will be fine as long as the defence sits deeper than it did last season as he isn't the quickest.
Buying him will indicate that our tactics are changing

The good thing is that he has some experience of the EPL.

 

It's ok not having a pacey CB if the defenders around him are quick. Very commanding though, wouldn't be surprised if he got given the captaincy.

 

Only joking as others seem to want a pacey CB...I'd settle for a good one in the right place at the right time. Just thought of the famous old Arsenal back four....Adams wasn't exactly pacey.

 

Don't need pace if you're smart.

 

Villa have been going nowhere for years, for such a big team they have very little ambition, maybe LR has a copy of NC's DVD.

I will be in the "need convincing" camp if we sign Vlaar.

 

I think he's decent. Villa fans are pretty keen on him, it seems. And he does get in the Holland team. We will need better options on the bench though, in case he starts making stupid mistakes.

 

I would be. Apparently he's a very quiet leader and leads by example rather than by barking orders. Think we need the latter to be honest

 

Fonte would be my preference for captaincy. He and Vlaar would make a very mentally-strong pairing. I'd worry a little about their pace getting back, and the occasional mistakes, but I'd be comfortable enough with them, as long as Yoshida isn't the strongest competition they have for their spot.
