I love Javier Hernandez. I won't judge him on this season just gone because of the Moyes effect. Still, not sure how we can be looking at targets without a manager, and I'm pretty sure he'd not join us anyway, but I'll appreciate a rumour of someone joining us rather than leaving for once.

I know Hernandez is often mentioned as the solution to all our chance-squandering worries but I really don't think he'd work out that well as our main striker. I just don't think you can play with a pure poacher up top alone unless you're looking to play entirely on the counter. Assuming we keep everyone we'd either need JRod to be more advanced and really improve his hold-up/build-up play, Lallana to take another huge step up in terms of his ability as a no.10 and his creativity, Gaston to emerge out of his cocoon a beautiful butterfly or bring someone fan-bloody-tastic in to replace Davis as more of a potent attacking threat. Either way it would totally change the shape of our team and I'm not sure it wouldn't just be us finding a new way to repeatedly bash our heads against the wall going forwards. I'd give a limb for him to be our main option off the bench but I have an inkling he wouldn't be too enamoured with the prospect of being a bench warmer at United to a super sub with us.

From what I've heard from fans who know more about Koeman than me, if we appoint him then our style is going to change a fair bit anyway. Never been a massive fan of Hernandez anyway, but would be a good signing for us.

Ooh, I really like your Gaston/butterfly analogy. Can I steal that?

You'll have to get in touch with my lawyer, we might be able to come to some sort of licensing agreement.

Ah, too late. I just called mine in preparation and he asked if you had a little c in a circle afterwards for copyright; sadly you didn't, so he says I'm free to pinch it .

Isn't a poacher exactly what we need? We don't have any trouble holding possession, or knocking the ball around the opposition end in pretty ways. We don't have someone in the box who can deliver the final product. Especially someone good with their feet since our crosses tend to be rather wayward.

Hernandez would work well with Clyne in particular, I think. But don't see why he wouldn't do well with Davis, JWP, Prowse or Ramirez either.

Shame Mick Channon isn't still playing too as I'm sure Koeman would appreciate his scoring celebration.

But why do we think we'll be playing the same system under a new manager.

Yes please Chicarito. Yes bloody please.

Pleased for Matt. He always worked hard for the U21s. A team player who encouraged and got on with the job. Hope he enjoys his holiday.

He is the one PL striker who I would love to see at Southampton, even more than Bony, Lukaku, or Demba Ba.

Not necessarily for Saints, but I wonder if a Prem team will make a move for Troy Deeney? Last few seasons he has scored 20+ goals I think, and at 25 is a good age. I saw an article saying Everton (and another team but can't remember who) were interested.
