Same as last season. Swansea were the flavour then. Laudrup was touted for everything. Michu was touted etc.

And just to look at this from the other direction, Saints have proved to be worthy, top half Premiership performers with a team which can only get better (young team). We have our targets, said Reed. Why is it more likely that we will lose players than strengthen?

You know what? I think that is the best analysis of this avalanche of tripe that I've seen so far. Thank you.

De Boer to Spurs would be great. It'd mean I'm far more confident of Pochettino staying, and we'd probably get to see Bergkamp in Spurs uniform.

Just occurred to me that while Southampton has been under a constant campaign by the media to be picked clean of star players, Manchester United seem to be getting away with murder. I would have thought that there would be several individuals who would clear out, given that there is no CL football for next season.

Let me see... RVP, Mata, Kagawa... no I'll stop. It might actually be easier to suggest who might stay. Half a dozen, starting with Rooney [and that's not 100%], Fletcher, etc...

Why not..? Reputations are supposed to count for nothing. Why should a club like ManU get an easy ride to their next Premier League beating team..?

You really think there'll be a mass exodus from United because they're out of the CL for one year? I don't really see it. If they don't make it back for the next one, maybe, but if they get a manager in who seems competent enough to improve that side (and new players of course), they're not going to be without European football for long.

Don't jump to their defence, PSF. ;)

No, I don't really think it, but it is interesting that if a significant player decided to depart, it may lead to a trickle, and then they'd be in trouble. What I'm painting is a picture of ManU not being as safe from being picked over as the media obviously think [hence no story of possibilities], and that no club is immune.

There's one significant weak link in the chain up there. Robin Van Persie. He's 29-30, won't have too many seasons left; is a world class player, and the man who took him to OT, and who he looked upto, is gone. He won't wait for too long.

The difference is that although they may not have champions league football, they are still going to be paid absolutely obscene amounts of money which they in all likelyhood wouldn't be able to command elsewhere. I reckon they'll play it safe and hang about.
