    Tancredi Palmeri on Twitter:

"Southampton have contacted Siena for the striker Emeghara, according to Sky Italy. Lazio is ahead though"

I know absolutely nothing about this guy, not a bad scoring record for a team that got relegated. Have to say it sounds like a risk of Mayuka proportions, and doesn't seem to fit the profile of players we are after in this window. Just seen his first name...Innocent, amazing!

He's a rarity in that he's English and he has good technical ability. I think he's our best player right now, and I would just about categorise him as "world class". He brings a hell of a lot to a game.

Rooney is world class until he plays in a world class environment. Then he most assuredly does not stamp his quality onto a game. I think, at international level, he lacks confidence and is played in the wrong position, so that doesn't help one iota.

Wikipedia and Transfermarkt state that he's Lorient-owned, on loan with Siena...how exactly would that work?

There appears to be two Emegharas. Both named Innocent. One is a 29 year old defender and the other is a 24 year old striker. The striker is currently playing for Siena, on loan from Lorient in France.

He gets played out of position for UTD as well. With Scholes not playing as much and their overall midfield not as strong as it has been he was being put into midfield to create for others ather than have people create for him. It does seem a bit harsh that he is now second fiddle but hasn't really been able to play in his best position and get the service he needs over the last fefw seasons. Its a bit like Rickie, if he is dropping deep to create then he is not where we would want him i.e on the end of his own passes/crosses, scoring.

I am 99% sure we were linked with Emeghera after the last u21 Euros, would've been before the Championship season and he was still playing in Switzerland.

Could maybe be some truth in this latest rumour if he is someone Cortese has been advised about for awhile

Ah..! Mind you, provoked me to mention that there are two players called Innocent Emeghara. So there's information for people who didn't know.

Thing is, I think Rooney's best position is attacking midfielder, like he used to play for Everton. I've never been convinced that he is a natural leader of a strike force. Mind you, it's never kept me up nights with worry either. He could play RB for all I care. It's just an academic point I'm making. :)

I think Rooney is a pretty unselfish player on the pitch. His personal life is a mess and he carries that with him to the detriment (mainly) of the National side, which is unfortunate. But when he's focused he's as good as anyone in the world bar Messi and I'd rather have him than a lot of others because he is willing to do the dirty work and play second fiddle to the likes of Chicharito and Ronaldo and his game to me is more complete.

It's hard to endorse him as a player because of his gaping flaws. But it's also somewhat disrespectful to imply he's second-rate or doesn't care. He does, it's just that he handicaps himself with personal things in a way that Ronaldo doesn't. Rooney is high maintenance without a doubt, but on the other hand he's still there at Man U. Ronaldo isn't. And Rooney has definitely carried Man U on his back for periods in a way that no one else could. It would almost be better if he were the complete modern selfish athlete. It's actually like what should be redeeming qualities in Rooney set him back because they prevent him from letting everything slide off him a la Messi or just being a complete ass and comfortable with it like Ronaldo.

As for England, it's a tough spot they are in. There are very few players who are capable of single-handedly carrying their team to the World Cup. You could probably count them on one hand and Van Persie, Ronaldo, and Chicharito in my mind are not in that group. But Rooney is. And quite frankly, they'll need that because the rest of the side is crap. It's their only chance. But the conditions for Rooney to be at his best like that have to be absolutely perfect, and they never will be. As soon as the spotlight shines on him, all his personal foibles come to light and he crumbles. Don't know what to do with a guy like that.

The only guy that is similar to me is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Ibra is nuts and unreliable for totally different reasons, but it amounts to the same. He is capable of moments of lucidity and in those moments can absolutely be the best in the world but you just can't control when that happens.

Yes, remember the name too and can only be from a previous window.
Sounds like the media are starting to hear about our back up signings.

I dream of the day that anyone ITK says 'Southampton is ahead'. We have all these feelers out...what if everyone turns round and says okay, we'll be there tomorrow. I suspect we have shown interest in a lot, but very few progress to the next stage. Meanwhile, the media still have us as a registered interest long after we've moved on. Take with a pinch of salt.

Yep, not sure if its just a rehash of that story or if there's new interest two years later! Anyone know how he's developed since then? He was pretty raw last time I saw him play as a sub for Switzerland ages ago.

Just reading that Man Utd have rejected a bid from Chelsea for Wayne Rooney. Supposedly £10M cash plus either David Luiz or Juan Mata. If this is true, then I think Man Utd are stupid for not biting their hand off.
