He has over the last year or so. Get Banega and Damiao in and I'll be very happy with the window.

Probably would want another defender, but maybe I'm asking for too much:cheesy:

What position does Banega play? Would he play the number 10 or out on one of the wings?

I appreciate that only the teams at the very top have top quality replacements for every position, but it worries me that if either Clyne or Shaw pick up a longer term injury, that we will be massively weakened.

It probably is. Would rather judge the window when its finished, but it's certainly one of the best I can remember so far! Just need 2 or 3 more signings of the same calibre that we've been signing ;)

Agree. But I'm sure a couple of the youngsters will step up this season as cover. We seem to be blessed with outstanding young talent in full back areas, they need a pathway to the first team. Shaw is prime example. If we are to get 40ish% of the first team from our academy, which Cortese said he wants, it's important that they have their chance to impress.

Anywhere central, he is comfortable as CDM, CM or CAM. I haven't seen him play as a winger so I can't comment on his ability to play there. However I would say he's certainly got the technical ability to play there but perhaps not the speed.

Jack Cork has had a lot of experience at RB too

Yoshida can play RB, but I don't think he looks particularly comfortable there, and can get ripped by pacey wingers. But perhaps Chambers will now step up to be our second choice RB, can't really comment much on him as I've only ever seen him play in midfield. Fox did look slightly better towards the end of the season, but is still a weakness that would be targeted. I assume Targett isn't quite ready yet, otherwise presumably he would be with the first team in Spain. So long as Shaw and Clyne can stay fit for the majority of games, we'll be fine I'm sure.

Also Cork can play right back. Any centre back can play full back as that is where they cover if the wing back is caught on the break.

Good point. Especially seeing as we now have Wanyama to replace him in the middle if needs be. Cork looked solid at RB on several occasions last season.

I've never seen Banega play out wide so I'd hope we'd not start that here :D I've made the comparison a few times - he'd do the same role Steven Davis did for us last season, in that he'd be in front of the midfield two without being a full on number 10, like Gaston. He'd obviously get in our team, so it'd probably push Gaston out wide.

I've never even seen Banega play. And yet I still get excited about the prospect of us signing him because everyone else gets excited by him. Cheers for the info. Seems like we are relying on Clyne and Shaw to provide our width. Would be nice to have the option of a pacey winger to mix things up a bit if needs be, but maybe I'm just being greedy.

The thing with Banega (and well, every playmaker in the world not named Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo) is that when he's not having a good day, he might as well not be on the field. It's not too often this happens from my experiences watching him, but there have been times where I'll see him have a speculative shot in the 75th minute and be surprised I hadn't noticed he was playing. His form seems quite patchy - rather than being off one week, on the next, he'll have four or five good games and then be crap for two or three. Still, I do honestly think he'd be very good in Pochettino's system and that he'd be able to get the best out of him.

All this talk of a pacy winger, anyone seen much of young lloyd isgrove? If he makes half the impact Shaw has in his first season, maybe we dont need anyone else. After all, he is good enough to be promoted into the 1st team squad so assume he is at least better than De Ridder.

What has happened to Aaron Martin, on loan last season, any chance of a recall for him or is he simply not up to the mark?

He's back in Southampton but hasn't been taken to Spain, so we'll assume he's not part of Pochettino's plans. At any rate, if he wasn't up to the mark in League One and the Championship, I'm not hopeful he would be in the Prem!

Actually, when called on in the championship he rarely put a foot wrong so surprised he have not seen more of him.
