Very stupid move from him if true. He's at the wrong end of his career so surely he should be going somehere where he would be first choice.

I can see the logic in getting a last payday after a long and fruitful career.

Maybe Schwarzer doesn't particularly care about being first choice any more. He's been playing for over 20 years and he might just not fancy continuing to play at a lower level. If it's a choice between retiring or getting paid to sit on the bench for Chelsea, might as well take the latter. I can't fault him for just wanting an easy salary at that age.

He's forty, unlikely to be wanted as a first choice by any top division sides in any decent league, and going to Chelsea he won't need to move his family. Also probably getting a better wage than he would elsewhere. Would have been very stupid of him to turn down in my book.

It's also a much better move for chelsea, rather than blowing in excess of £7m for a backup.

I also think it's a good move for Chelsea. They get to have a reliable back-up should Cech get injured and then they can bring back Courtois when Schwarzer's deal expires in 12 months.

Fulham have signed Stekelenburg haven't they? Would you rather sit on the bench at Craven Cottage or Stamford Bridge? Don't blame him in the slightest.

He may well get to play in the FA cup and League Cups so will have a good chance of picking up some silverware at the end of his career. One of those where everyone wins I think.

He also gets to train week in week out with some of the best players about and get European trips to big clubs. Very good choice by him

Hardly stupid. I think you are forgetting the bloke has thrown his body around a pitch for 25 years and at 40, is imagine he thinks he deserves a nice little earner.

Exactly.

Schwarzer doesn't even have to move. Can't say I blame him at all. A relatively reliable and experienced head for Chelsea to call upon too.

Internacional say they have turned down a "verbal" €18 million bid from Napoli for Damiao.

They say they don't need to sell Damiao and the offer was too low

I'm surprised at him going to Chelsea, on the basis that I could still see him being someone's first choice keeper next season. Clearly that won't be the case at Chelsea.

But Mikey's point is an excellent. He won't need to move house, move his family, nothing. Rather than go through all that upheaval (again) for the sake of maybe one or two more years, why not put his family and his personal life first at last? I wouldn't be surprised if the same roughly applied to Kelvin when he signed a new contract with us last season.

The only negative I've seen is that he apparently said he wouldn't renew his contract at Fulham because he didn't want to be a no 2 in a World Cup year

Also makes sense given his desire to transition into administration; in London at a big team, he'll likely have the opportunity to do some networking as he plans the next step of his career.
