Well, We need someone in the team, to be honest, having sold a fair number of the first team squad during the summer - mostly to Premiership clubs. Incidentally, have you noticed how decent Gary Medel is in midfield for Cardiff. I think he was MoM yesterday. He's a madman on occassion, but he would have been good to have.
In today's press conference Jol was very coy about any further signings. " With just a few days remaining before the summer transfer window slams shut, Jol was inevitably quizzed about further new arrivals to SW6, but the Dutchman doesn’t envisage wholesale changes before the deadline at 11pm on Monday. “I don’t think it [deadline day] will be as hectic as it was here over the last season when we had one or two players coming in on the last day,” he said. “But there are always wishes for any manager. “I think at the back, for example, we could do with a player, but we’ll have to wait and see. Of course Aaron Hughes could always play right-back for Sascha, but we will have to wait and see – maybe there will be one. “We are probably 20th in the ranking in the league in terms of spending money, but we still do well so we are very proud of that sort of thing, that we still get the good players in – like Bent, and even Scott Parker – and I think if we can do that, attract these players, we will do well.” Hopefully, with no reference a left back or an attacking midfielder he is merely playing his cards close to his chest.
According to the Mail, Jol is 'one step away' from bringing in a new, young Striker: " Fulham are in talks to sign Colombia striker Jhon Cordoba on an initial loan. Manager Martin Jol has made his move to beat off competition from Espanyol for the 20-year-old who plays for Mexican side Chiapas. The powerful forward will not meet initial requirements for a work permit as he is a Columbia U20 international but Fulham hope to win an appeal on the grounds that he is a special talent." And, they say: "Fulham are also in talks with Parma over a deal for defender Yohan Benalouane, 26, that could see Philippe Senderos go the other way." Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ing-sign-Jhon-Cordoba-loan.html#ixzz2dUj86xch There was an earlier post about Benalouane and rumours, but I don't think this is simply picking up old news. Rather that it's the Senderos situation coming to a head and trying to sort something to mutual satisfaction (before the deadline).
Sunday's mini round up - "Fulham are considering signing Michael Mancienne from Hamburg. Martin Jol has sounded out his old club about a deal for the versatile ex-Chelsea man, who can play centre-back, defensive midfield and full-back, and will decide on Monday whether to push ahead with a move. Jol is keen on bringing him in after failing to sign Jack Cork from Southampton, and the German club's financial plight means they are keen to sell.. Meanwhile, QPR boss Harry Redknapp is also considering bids for Fulham's defensive duo, Philippe Senderos and John Arne Riise."
Sky reporting: A player Fulham were reported to want to sign on loan. A done deal in Serie A: Parma have signed Uruguay international defensive midfielder Walter Gargano on a season-long loan from Napoli with a view to a permanent move. The 29-year-old was also out on loan in the 2012/13 campaign, with Inter Milan.
Drat, drat and drat!! Also, Morgan Amalfitano of Marseille has gone to West Brom on loan with an option to buy.
Yep don't imagine any new signings, perhaps a loan deal and maybe we will pick up someone out of contract but no hope for a £4m+ signing in my mind. I suspect Mr Khan has bought us primarily for cross-advertising and raising NFL profile in London- his main focus is probably just keeping us up because the difference in prize money between 17th and 7th is about the cost of a new 'star' player, wages included. Keep us up and scoop up the TV money.
The worrying part of the story is that most of the team around us are spending to get quality players. Parker and Bent are both good business. Need to spend to get a LB and CM... And a RB for cover.
The latest rumours on Monday pm - Parma have yet to reach an agreement with Fulham over a possible exchange between the sides that would see Yohan Benalouane and Philippe Senderos switch clubs. Source: http://forzaitalianfootball.com/201...-reached-an-agreement-over-swap-of-defenders/ Hull City are understood to be in the hunt for want away Fulham striker Hugo Rodallega as Steve Bruce looks to strengthen his attacking options, the Mirror understands. [The bid is rumoured as being around £2m] [It’s got some credence since Hull’s attempts to sign Niklas Bendtner have fallen through because of his wage demands.] Beşiktaş have reached an agreement-in-principle over Fulham winger Kerim Frei according to Turkish newspaper, Milliyet. Frei will sign a five-year deal with the Black Eagles if Beşiktaş and Fulham agree a transfer fee.
Hull spend £5m on Shane Long. WBA spend £6m+ on Sessegnon. We spend... nothing. I really thought we'd sign Amalfitano on loan, but we didn't even manage that. All rather disheartening, to be honest.
Jol even said he was going to try and do something about the full back position. Bit of a disappointment, really.
Apparently some lad called Zverotic has passed his medical at Motspur Park. He is a right back from Young Boys.
Don't like being negative but we are ****ed. Everyone around us has signed quality players and we haven't even covered what we actually NEEDED. Disappointed.
We've spent around £9-13m and we've got ourselves a good goalkeeper, a top right back and a good defensive midfielder as well as a good striker on loan. There are some positives. However, we've completely missed on a link-up midfielder and a new left back. We've got a better squad than when the window closed a year ago, but this leaves our average net transfer spending over the past three seasons at around £3m per season. Either we are paying our players far too much, or a lot of TV money is going missing.
As much as i loathed Mark Hughes,i am coming aroung to his way of thinking. Fulham have no ambition..
