You know fine where I'm going with this.

Religions are just a bunch of laws and guidelines which people have picked and chosen down the years. That's what people do.

Which goes back to what I said to stereo

We do things out of fashion, familiarity etc not based on our beliefs

I personally believe religion is a bit more than that

However (for the 3rd time <spitsindisgust>) I agree that people have picked and chosen down the years, hence 'changing' religion.

The point being this is wrong, hence the suicide and gay marriage question in the OP

So you would prefer a more fundamental religion?

Totally agree, I hate religion so much it's all rubbish about who's make believe person is the best. Every religious person should be lined up against a wall and shot dead for being ridiculously stupid and soft in the head for believing such crap.

    p.s I am not a fan of religion. <ok>

If by fundamental you mean one that sticks to what it believes then yes

I see too many religions/preachers/practitioners waxing lyrical about issues that are clear cut whilst at the same time digging in their heels about something else

they can **** off with that

But religions evolve over time. For example, science has allowed humans to become more enlightened about the world and the universe so what were considered miracles in the past are now seen as natural acts which are easily (or sometimes not so easily) explained.

Religion has to evolve like everything else.

Not as simple as that IMO

evolving isnt the same as picking and choosing. Either both are OK or neither

    Bang on mate.

No I don't celebrate religious festivals, I enjoy christmas and the story of Santa with my children, it's different to 'celebrating religious festivals' none of that crap about Jesus gets a mention in my household. Marriage? I've always said I will never marry but if I do change my mind then that will be because it's tradition to show your love to that special person, it will have bugger all to do with religion pal. Church funeral? Yeah probably, again tradition (that's just what happens) but the talk of god and such won't get a mention, I would just like my life to be talked about. <ok>

    I disagree (phew)

If the criteria for what is wrong and what is right is God
Then suicide and homosexuality are both wrong

either accept both or say no to both, to pick and choose is against your belief and is hypocricy

But you said the Koran was unchanged since it was written

Are you implying that all other religions are fake but not yours

No that isnt the implication, although the quran hasnt been changed

Let me put it this way. Suicide is wrong in the Bible and Quran, so no 'changes' there

Its the 'practitioners' ie priests and mullahs that use their respective books to say no to homosexuality (as they do)
yet will hold services for suicides.

    That is wrong IMO

    But that's how religions evolve.

It's the reason why women can wear white and get married in a church even though they aren't virgins. That wouldn't have been allowed 200 years ago.

    Everything evolves, even religion.
