Think Scotland should play Mackail-Smith and Fletcher up front. One hard working, one goalscorer. Not brilliant I know, but think it would be OK

I know I'm joking.. but seriously are you from Scotland or Wales? Instead of worrying about them, worry about England who always seem to ****e up when it really mattars. <ok>

Our central midfield,on paper,is as good as many nations that are "better" than us. The defence and lack of a clinical striker really kills us. Our full backs are far too attacking for the tactics Levein wants to play and it leaves our "poor at best" centre halfs very exposed. We are however very unlucky, since 1998 Scotland have gained the most points in qualifying tournaments without qualifying.

On a whole though I can't see where its going to get any better, Croatia, Serbia and Belgium are going to be very difficult.

I agree that overall, Scotland is a poor team in terms of quality when you compare them to one of the top 10 international teams.

I was proud of Scotland last night though as we played the best team in the world and even though we lost 3-1 we never once let our heads drop and continued to harry and get the ball.

Dis anyone else notice that there was no segregated seating last night? Well played Tartan Army :)

Bearing in mind Chappaz, the population of our whole nation is the same size/smaller than London, I think we do ok. The critisism is a bit harsh, were not the best but name a nation with a similar population/size that is doing much better??

Bosnia,Ireland,Croatia are the only ones with a smaller population than Scotland who i'd say are better than Scotland the problem is strength in depth.like i said earlier England aren't all that either if you take about 4 players out i'd say they were pretty average and full of under achieving over inflated egos backed by a over expectant nation.

That is a fair reflection. Some positions we are quite strong, for example,if hutton got injured Whittaker is a more than ample replacement. On the left hand side though we are ****ed Bardsley is our only half decent LB. There is very little strength in depth though, Don Cowie coming on against Spain clearly highlighted that!!!

Out of the teams you mentioned,I would say Ireland are better. Croatia and Bosnia though would have struggled to do much better than us in that qualifying group. Time will tell how good we are against Croatia as we meet the in WC2014 qualifying.

How far away are Bradden Inman and Paul Dummett from breaking into the full national squads?

out of them three i'd have said you were closer to Ireland and maybe Bosnia but Croatia are a very good side (ranked 9th in the world 1 behind England) and not being funny you're a million miles away from them would even go as far as saying they are a better team than England at this present time.

Inman hasn't played for the Scotland U-21's for a while (was injured) but Australia U-21's also lured him to play for them this year.

He has to choose who he wants to play for still.

I did point that out. Very first line in the post you quoted actually.

I'm stating the facts (i.e. these national teams have to use CC players to fill their starting 11 and this is poor) but ultimately both nations can't be given much stick at all considering the population size.

Imo, Scotland are seriously missing a quality striker. They have top players in key positions, like Gordon in goal and Adam in midfield, but the attacking options really blow.

I suppose it's just the luck of the draw really. I mean if bloody Bosnia can produce Dzeko, then hopefully one day Scotland can pop out a gem of their own.

Just to point out, on a global scale the English Championship isn't that bad a league, probably still in the Top20 and better than many national leagues...

I agree with what you say, McKail-Smith and Miller are our best 2 and if they were that good they wouldn't be at Cardiff and Brighton. You could argue Steven Fletcher but his attitude and fight with Levein means he is not getting a look in. Goodwillie has bags of potential, A Scottish Rooney in the making,I just feel Blackburn are going to ruin him though. Just need to wait a few years until young Islam Ferouz(Scottish born and bread as the name suggests) is ready to step up.

I dont understand your arrogance to be honest. England played us Wales at wembley and you were lucky to get out with anything.

It doesnt matter whether we have championship or premier , our team spirit is superb, and will openly admit that our rugby is better.

But let me say this your overpaid bunch of prima donnas are piss poor , and dont deserve to be in the top 10 what have they achieved.

England fans are known to be arrogant and despite the fact i support you guys in the euros etc, it drives me wild when these topics come up. You have only enhanced the view. Its bad enough in the rugby,.

Rugby is our game (semi final here we come) we know that but we didnt do too bad in qualifiying. Have some respect man.

Both Wales and scotland were unlucky not to get in the play offs so lets get some facts right you clown.

Thats a bit harsh mate. I don't think Chappaz was intending to offend (although the title of the thread was a bit harsh). It was a well balanced view/arguement on how he see's it IMO. I tend to disagree with some of it and agree with some of it.

I agree that our FIFA rankings are always way off, we're a top 20 side probably.

    8th and above Argentina? <laugh>

I'd honestly say we're probably on a par with Mexico.
