Successful 'stop-gap' managers?

The time now is fast approaching we're city have to back him or sack him, if there's no change come January in both off/on field personnel, then i really do think we will slip down into league one, if they do get rid then the new guy needs a week or two to decided on what he's inherited before the window opens.

Really not up on who is available. Is there a list of managers out of work?
Alexander at scunny seems pretty impressive.
What about Shakespeare?

I don't think there is anyone realistic. Brown seems to be fond of us. He seems mad enough too.

Alexander could be a good a good shout.

Shakespeare kept them in the Premier League which counts as a success.

Malcolm Crosby came in for Dennis Smith as Caretaker Manager at Sunderland and took them to the FA Cup final in the same season, losing 2-0 to Liverpool.
Stayed for a couple of seasons before getting the tin-tack.
Sure. But it wasn't long-term, was it, really? Same with De Matteo.

I'm still struggling to think of someone who got a job at a top flight club and went on to have a pretty long-lasting and successful top-flight career.

I don't get how Phil Brown isn't universally adored by our fans. He took us to Wembley for the first time in our history and gave us the best day of our lives. The year before he came in and changed us around and kept us up.

Then our first season in the Premier League was amazing some of the best away days of my life.

I think some fans have become a bit used to success and don't appreciate how flippin brilliant those years where under Brown. He was a character but I loved all four seasons under him.

Also Southend fans love him and thought he would get poached in the summer as he guided them to seventh well above their financial means.
The calendar year 2008 was amazing from mid table in the championship to a non stop juggernaut smashing through London and taking the 2 goal lead at league leaders Liverpool , I don't think supporting City will ever get better than that , including our cup final appearance - it's why I can't bring myself to hate duffen either

People always seem to ask 'who is available?', but does it have to be a manager who is out of work? Granted our last 3 managers have been (save for Phelan who was already here), but it doesn't mean they are the only ones we are looking at. Alexander would be a great shout, Paul Hurst at Shrewsbury or Danny Cowley at Lincoln would also be decent.

I think everyone is assuming the Allams are too tight to pay to get somebody

OK, although Liverpool were in the habit of promoting from The Boot Room. It was a little different to the kind of thing I'm talking about. Still, good call. Anyone in more recent times though?
He was the first one to be promoted from the boot room.
Capello was promoted at Milan from the back room staff.
Guardiola at Barca the same.

Been championing Alexander for a while but given the way the two teams are doing at the minute not sure he would swap tbh
