Simples no it is not to long. he made a conscious desicion to bite Ivanovic and he got exactly what he got. the man is an idiot. I firmly believe that the Liverpool fans are behind him as he is by a mile their best player. but he let the club, management and the fans downs.
Its not whether it s to long or not, A 10 match ban would be fair if everyone who bites another player got a 10 match ban also.....but they don't and you only get to read or hear about other players through snippets here and there....and what about when a player spits in the face of a player or grabs his bollocks or arms.....are they not a serious offence also......Its not about the length of ban its about the inconsistency of punishments given to players of the same offence or worse when they are super stars......Why did the papers make it their front page headline ffs.....( some of them did make me chuckle) but that's beside the point......papers will build you up waiting to take pleasure of ridiculing you just so they can sell their rags....I bet you any money you like that the next player who gets caught with a similar offence wont get anywhere near a 10 match ban......and that is not fair.....
Dai I will agree with the spitting. No ban would be long enough for spitting at a player. I remember Rykard spitting twice at Rudy Voller, I think If I'd have been Voller I would have chinned the git. For me since then, Rykard was scum, and I always thought he was a great player, but that incident tarnished his reputation.
So he got 10 games and 7 for his previous offence. There is no ther presidence so if it is right or wrong no one knows and please dont use the defoe incident as that was dealt with at the time.
I'd have banned him for a lot longer. I think the rugby authorities had it right when they banned someone for biting for 18 months.
I agree just as long as it applies to everyone......mind you there wont be many player left playing as they all commit offenses during the match.......I hate shirt pulling and would love the ref's to start giving reds for it.....yes its a contact sport but not cheating a player by pulling on his shirt its not....another is crowding the ref when he makes a decision they don't like even though they know the decision is the correct one......
Dai, pulling a shirt is trivial compared to biting someone, crowding the ref i think the ref should either book or send the ****ers off
They've set a precedence now and it should be put in the rules that if you bite an opponent it's a 10 game ban, it would be unfair to give anyone different now.
so cheating is ok..... ...well it don't look like Liverpool missed him today with a 6-0 slaughter of the toon away...A brilliant display by anyone's standard...
totally agree, i watched the match. cheating is not ok but surely even you would agree that biting is a far more serious offence than a shirt tug
