Does this also apply to Rio? Surely by the same logic he should forget about his dislike towards Suarez and accept his handshake. So Rio has apparently hurt the club in some way?

I'm never going to understand why people make such a fuss about refusing to shake someone's hand anyway. It's just a completely pointless formality so I really fail to see what the big deal is. "He could have caused a riot." - well he caused nothing whatsoever, other than that people are talking about an irrelevant non-incident rather than big Premier League game between Manchester United and Liverpool. But then that's their choice not Suarez's.

He did - would've liked him to be the bigger man. But then in his defence it seemed like his decision was a spur of the moment one, whereas Suarez' was premeditated.

It is a fairly pointless formality - a handshake between the captains at the start should be enough. After all, that's what they have in almost all football games - and isn't the argument for not having technology that the game should be the same right the way from grass roots level up?

That said, although it's a pointless formality it is very symbolic in many people's opinion. If he didn't want to shake Evra's hand, he should've spoken up before the game to make sure everyone was aware of that. Tbh I'm not sure why he didn't - he could've made a much more effective stance by releasing a statement along the lines of I am not willing to shake the hand of someone who I believe has falsely accused me of something, or even just told his manager. Handshake would've been cancelled, pointless hassle, tension and embarrassment averted.

He could've done it that way but chose to do it the Liverpool way. **** it up then claim Utd/FA/Media conspiracy. I'm surprised no-one's mentioned Howard Webb's involvement in all of this!

Come off it. Suarez is now a racist in everyone's eyes at the hand of an FA verdict decided on by a statement changed multiple times by Evra. That's damning.

OK..Evra changed his statement and Suarez admitted to racially abusing Evra.He could have helped his cause by apologizing for his ignorance(He didn't know Negro was offensive..Bet he won't be saying that again on the pitch). The more him an Kenny shout conspiracy the more stupid they look.
Why didn't they appeal if they felt they were in the right?

Maybe Liverpool's effort would thus be better spent on apologies and reconciliation, rather than beating a highly subjective drum that no one is listening to? After all, plenty of players have committed worse acts without being painted as racists through the simple medium of apologising and accepting that they were in the wrong (see Stuart Pearce for details...)

I wonder if Terry will get off with that excuse. Unlike Suarez we have defenite video evidence on his case, be interesting what lies his legal team make up to get him out of it

If you couldn't give a **** Dregs, leave discussions about adult stuff to the grown ups, and don't comment. You seem confused into thinking that because you can type swear words you come across as a big boy, but all you are succeeding in doing, is making yourself appear as a closet racist. And a ****
 
Funny how Suarez gets criticised for failing to put an end to the matter, when it looks like most of you lot love to keep the squabble going on

I don't doubt it for one second, whenever they have been left to make their own statements it's been a PR car crash, I'm just surprised it's taken this long for someone upstairs to step in.

Will be interesting to see what happens come the end of the season. With Liverpool having gone backwards from the second half of last season, and Dalglish embarrassing the owners, the King may be deposed in the summer. But will FSG be willing to risk pissing off the fans by sacking him, or will they kowtow to fan sentiment again?

I wouldn't be surprised if the Yanks had a think about the future of Dalglish. Right at the outset I said he was mishandling it. It is one thing having sarcastic comebacks on your formation or your team's performance, it is different when you are dealing with racial abuse. Sarcastic wit and circling the wagon could be viewed as being totally out of touch and not taking this issue seriously. I knew he was in big trouble when I heard him answer questions about it for the first time. I thought he was way out of his depth (he is a football man ffs and we all know that football is not exactly at the forefront of understanding about antiracism) and that this should have been handled by Ayre the CEO. He dug himself deeper and deeper without anyone saying to him that on these matters you just cannot win. The more you argue the details the more you dig a hole for yourself and your club because people think that you are defending racism and THAT is the biggest PR disaster that you can have.

Dalglish focussed on the details: who said what, the alleged lies of Evra etc, the report. Suarez was given a lengthy ban which the club did not appeal. What was the purpose of these inuendos and non acceptance of the verdict. This only served to enrage all the antiracist campaigners which inlcude top politicians. Whe you get them worried and involved, you know you are in big trouble. The Yank owners could simply not afford for the image to be tainted and for the PM to call them into Downing St.

I said sooner or later Suarez, Dalglish (and the club) will have to apologise to Evra as the wronged party. It has not happened yet but I can sense a momentum behind this and the owners might well force Dalglish to eat humble pie yet again and apologsie to Evra.

I have no sympathy for Dalglish because he has had time to think about it and to get advice from his bosses and yet he contnues this line which eventually will bring his downfall. He has severely damaged the Liverpool brand and to the Yanks that is the worst thing that you can do to their investment.
 
C'mon Swarbs, just yell it once, then you'll know why it's one of the top American catch phrases behind "shake'n'bake" and "would you like fries with that?"

It'll be interesting to see what FSG will do. If they remove Kenny Daglish, I would be surprised to see a few players sold to help fund new transfers, and maybe help get their public relations back on track. I think FSG wants to make Liverpool a big brand over here in the states, and that'll be hard to do with the current drama surrounding Anfield. Maybe they're better off just selling the club back to Gillet and Hicks. <whistle>
