So despite him scoring all sorts of different goals and scoring goals at a 1 in 2 rate throughout his career he's not a natural goal scorer?
Didn't you hear Brendan's interview on MOTD? He has to practice those free kicks on training fields. #notnaturaltalentjusthardworkpffffff
well according to some gooners Ramsey is worth £50m on current form with that in mind my valuation of Suarez now stands at £400M
But he's scored goals the whole way through his career, it's not as if he's suddenly found the magic touch. To have a 1 in 2 career goal ratio you have to have natural goal scoring ability surely?
This. Sorry Gerrez, but every time you pipe up saying Suarez isn't a 'natural goalscorer' it's like nails on a chalkboard. It's the same as MFG being unhappy because we only scored 5 which makes Brendan clueless. Sometimes you ned to hold your hands up and say you're wrong. (You're wrong)
But I'm not wrong. A natural doesn't have to work at it to get better, they can just do it. A natural goalscorer doesn't take ninth or ten chances to score a goal as he did last season. At that time, I was actually saying he wasn't a striker (Fowler, Shearer, Owen, etc), I referred to him as a forward or attacker (Zola, Sheringham, Bergkamp, etc). Credit where credit is due, he's started scoring at a much better ratio but he's had to work at it in training which isn't "natural", its hard work putting something right. He also missed too many "easy" chances to be a natural IMO. If you think I'm picking on him then I'll give another example; Andy Cole! He scored a bag full of goals at Newcastle and Man Utd. Never in a million years would I call him a natural goalscorer but he was a striker. Another example is Kevin Phillips; he was never world class level but if he got half a sniff he scored goals for fun. Same goes for Fowler. These two are naturals, they get a chance and instinctively hit the target and score goals. Suarez doesn't do it on instinct! I do refer to Luis as a striker now though. PS...you don't become a natural, you either are or your not.
To be fair, Luis has always scored a bag load of goals. No one questions that. But he did always need (same at Ajax) alot of shots on target to get those goals. He wasn't, say, a Fowler or Van Nistelrooy type player who would get 2 chances and score 2. He'll create (mostly on his own) 10-12 chances and net 3 or 4. He's got alot of natural ability, but being clinical isn't one of his skills. That's something he's really worked in recent years - this season and last season have seen his goals per chance (and game) shoot up.
I understand the argument that he isn't as prolific as other natural goalscorers, and I certainly agree with it to an extent. But his eye for goal cannot be doubted when he has time and space. A lot of the chances he misses are chances created entirely by himself, meaning that he maybe has less of an angle or maybe he's off balance. It's very rare he misses a clear cut chance. Then again this is all very dependant upon how much weight one places on certain definitions. Agree to disagree and all that.
look just enjoy it. yes in a game where chances are rare he might miss them and we lose but enjoy the thing while it lasts. the first and third goal are supremely enjoyable to see and get you of your seat. the second is a real poachers goal and the free kick... just sweet. enjoy it... don't ruin it by over analysing cos yeah he'll miss the first one and then not get any the next day but on the night it was sweet wasn't it... my opinion is a lot of the time he shoots early as possible. just fires them in to catch people off gaurd etc. i have not seen him miss one like allen did say v everton ever so i do think his strategy is to get the shot off quick rather than aim cos frankly the free kicks indicate a stunning accuracy.
