Depends which n word you mean. Suarez immediately admitted he'd used the word negro. Evra initially said he'd been called a black, then said he'd only said that because he couldn't repeat the word '******' (see YouTube), which is what he initially meant because it sounds like the Spanish for negro. Whichever way you throw it, Suarez shouldn't have said it. Whichever way you spin it, Evra changed his version of what he'd been called after consulting with the FA on what evidence they had - nothing apart from Suarez's admission, and his own racist tirade engineered to incite a fight -then lied, with the FA's acquiescence (and advice?) as to why he changed it. I doubt the FA had seen his YouTube rant using the N word about Chelsea, though I wouldn't be totally shocked if they had and just hoped that it wouldn't be produced before the hearing.

At the risk of reopening the huge massive debate we all had here at the time, I would say context is all. For example black rappers use the n word frequently in their songs. I know close family members call each other the n word when they interact in an affectionate joking way.

But it has been used to demean an individual or group of individuals. The person at the end of it can make a difference between a person calling him in an offensive manner and another using it in an affectionate or intimate way.

I was very careful not to give an opinion cause I don’t want to get into it :)
I totally understand what you are saying but current protocol is dictating context has zero to do with it hence the silva situation. I am not saying what I think just how the land appears to lie atm.
I do not think it’s acceptable for someone to cry wolf about the n word and claim they abhor the usage of the word when they have used it themselves - that is hypocritical imho
If the word is offensive - it’s offensive end of in today’s society it would appear
For example blackboard = chalk board weirdly a white board is still a white board
If you allow context, what happens when someone smiles and calls it you nicely? - then you are debating intent which no one can really prove or disprove.
You can only tell if someone has lost their rag :(
truth is none of us will ever know the only person who does is Suarez.

Not sure how anyone can think that banner was a good idea. Nearly as bad as the Alan Sugar comment on the Senegal team.

I wont go back and check if you spewed any **** when our fans kicked that guy off the train, because I am nice like that :p

It's getting to the point where your struggling to do anything for fear of offending some group or other.

It was a joke, maybe in poor taste, but that's about it. I've had a read through some of the reports from the papers on it and youd think they'd set fire to a cross the way it's being portrayed.

This kind of thing feeds the masses and sends them into a frenzy, it's boring imo and hampers the efforts of people trying to deal with real racism.

This is the biggest issue and it happens over and over again. Every little thing is blown up to massive proportions and people get bored, well maybe not bored but jaded. Anything meaningful gets lost in the noise.
