all parties were told not to comment while the investigation was taking place - this obviously does not apply to ferguson who has said that evra was right to make the complaint - i don't mind managers coming out and saying they support their player but saying they know that something was said by suarez is going to far - wonder will the fa take any action against fergie for stirring it - somehow i doubt it

"The FA interviewed Patrice yesterday and have sent us a directive today saying not to discuss it while the investigation is going on," revealed the Scot.

"I have got plenty to say on the subject but I suppose I will have to adhere to what they are saying. I would like to say something about Pat in this particular instance but let them get on with their investigation."

I seem to remember EMF asking the same about KPR, and we know how that one turned out....

In other news, has anyone seen this?

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/8859206/Liverpools-Luis-Suarez-is-best-on-the-planet-for-winning-penalties-says-West-Brom-midfielder-Paul-Scharner.html

'Asked for his verdict on Suarez's performance, Scharner said: "It was a nice dive for the penalty and that got Liverpool well started for the game."'

What a load of rubbish. It smacks of desperation, and only adds to to this fresh obsession with Suarez going down easily. Sure, he does it from time to time, but not every time.

Has anyone been able to find a clip of the penalty incident, btw? From what I remember Jerome Thomas out-muscled Suarez - illegally according to the linesman - and Suarez went down, not to win a penalty, but because he was knocked off balance. He didn't appeal for a penalty, or even look towards the ref, but got up and went after the ball.

all the commentators said it was a stupid challenge and a clear penalty - it's easy for west brom players to blame suarez as fergie has made him an easy target - and he didn't look for the penalty - he was trying to get up and go after the ball when the ref blew

There is no doubt it was a penalty. Don't listen to anyone who says otherwise <ok>

I suppose if Woy - a man who thought a 2-0 derby loss constituted a great performance - thinks it wasn't a penalty, then we have our answer: it was nailed on.

I posted this on the Pub thread a few days ago.

In the days after the accusation of racism against Luis Saurez both Dalglish and Ferguson backed their players, the FA decided to investigate the unsubstansiated claim by Evra and since then theres been little said by both camps.

A couple of days ago Kenny made a short statement in which he said the club and Saurez want the FA to decide on their findings as soon as possible.

Yesterday a week after branding Saurez a diving cheat Ferguson once again gave his biased opinion against our player,he deliberately brought John Terry's racism case into play when commenting on the Saurez/Evra case.

"There's no doubt in my mind what happened at Anfield with Patrice but it's the FA's responsibility to sort it out," Ferguson said. "We spoke to them a few days ago, they are doing their work and we will leave the matter in their hands. But I'm very surprised that this sort of thing is happening now. I don't know if it's just a coincidence that two cases are going on, let's hope we don't get three, but this is 2011, for goodness sake.

"I can't believe there is any sort of issue over race in the game given the number of black players who take part. It's such a rare, rare occurrence for this sort of thing to surface. I can't even remember the last time allegations of this sort were levelled against a player.

"Everyone knows the contribution black players have made to modern day football, and have been doing for many years, so it's surprising to have this happening now. Just within our own club we have had some fantastic players with great personalities, and we've been very lucky to have them."

In his first sentence he states "There is no doubt in my mind",he then says "but its the FA's responsibility to sort it out,his first sentence negates his second and its obvious hes attempting to influence the enquiry,he then tells us hes very surprised this sort of thing IS happening now,so hes made his mind up it is happening before the enquiry is over.

In answer to his final comment,Liverpool have and have had many black players in fact we had a lad fom the local black community(Howie Gayle)to thank for getting us to a European cup final by running Bayern Munich ragged in the away leg of the semi-final years before united had even signed a black player.
And all of our black players have been nice lads(except Diouf)and they were'nt/are'nt racially abused at LFC,if they did'nt/dont put a shift in they get slagged off just any player would.

Keep schtum Ferguson until the FA decide the outcome.

There is no way they could punish Evra - how could they prove he is lying ? They may lack evidence to punish Suarez but it would be impossible to prove Evra is lying <ok>

Got to disagree Eric,an accusation was made without proof(possibly)and the accusation could have altered Suarez's career beyond repair.

    Loss of sponsorship deals
    dropped internationally
    Shipped out by Liverpool

Unless you can prove something you cant just throw those kind of allegations around(just because you had a bad day at the office),otherwise it opens the floodgates for others to do the same without suffering any consequences.

So basically Suarez is tainted either way?? You're right though if the accused is in the wrong then he gets the proverbial book thrown at him (and rightly so) but if the accuser is in the wrong then nothing happens. I guess the issue of racism is such a hot potatoe the FA probably has no choice but to sit on the fence a bit.

What I do find a bit tough to swallow is the fact that the accusation is Suarez said it TEN times. How does it take 3 weeks to find evidence if he said it 10 times?

Whilst none of us know and I doubt we ever will know for sure what happened, for the FA to charge Evra they would surely have to prove that he has lied and I don't think they can do that.

Ethically it is a different matter if Evra has lied then he should be charged however I don't think it is in anyway possible that they could prove it.

For example it nobody else heared it and it wasn't picked up on camera is that conclusive proof that it didn't happen ?

I don't think any player will be charged with anything in this instance and if they are I'd expect either player to appeal.

That is the problem. I've tried to be honest in my view from the start and I've never called Suarez racist but the unfortunate fact is that mud sticks - when such accusations are made some fans will now always consider Suarez racist ( although it seems other fans rather than us United fans in this case )

I think the FA may have played a clever game by waiting and letting the situation die down a little - it would have worked even better if it wasn't for JT though <ok>

If thats the case the whole system needs looking at,what your saying is theres every possibilty that Evra lied,if he did he walks away unpunished whilst the victim of his lie is left with the spectre of being a racist hanging over his head from now on.

I think(going by what Dalglish said)that Liverpool will take it further should Suarez have no case to answer.

But IF there's no evidence then at what point does anyone sit down with Evra and tell him he can't keep accusing people of racism unless he can prove it. The fact is that if Suarez is found guilty he will get the book thrown at him and be on the back page of every paper in the land...and rightly so...but Evra (or any other player for that matter) knows he can say what he likes and no one can touch him because it's an issue concerning racism. Doesn't seem right somehow.

Either way the whole thing leaves a sour taste and whichever of them is bullshitting is basically a complete twat <ok>

I completely agree whoever is lying is a twat <ok>

I don't think anybody will be charged here though as I think it will just be inconclusive.

Not by the FA no but I do wonder IF it never happened and Suarex knew he couldn't prove it because it didn't happen then I wonder if a case could be pursued in a Civil court for defamation of character. I'm not a lawyer so not sure but just a thought.

As the FA is essentially a political organisation, I can see them making a political decision. The most dangerous ground for them is racism. So they find that charge unproven. In their terms the matter then becomes procedural.

I agree with Eric that it would be almost impossible to prove that Evra lied. However, they could charge him with bringing an unsubstantiated charge and/or making public statements prior to making the charge. Probably this would fall under the general heading of bringing the game into dissrepute for which sanctions are already established. However, they are now probably considering what the likely response to such an adjudication would be from both of the players and their clubs.
