Someone on Facebook posted the link about Lawrence head butting someone and he put a love heart after it and said 'love that guy legend' Sorry but that is f****** disgraceful!
I don't think the ban is correct it doesn't matter if you like Suarez or not the fact is there has been no proof he said anything racial at all except evra said he did nobody on the pitch heard anything
i always refer to this when players get banned for various infractions! 10 games for pushing someone over is so much compared to someone giving out racist abuse!
As has been widely speculated online, I heard a spokesman for Suarez on 5 live a few days after the charge was announced stating that Suarez had repeatedly used the term referred to here: http://thekop.liverpoolfc.tv/_Luis-...of-negro-and-negrito/blog/5480674/173471.html and was genuinely surprised at the controversy as his United team mates were also using it. Now, regardless of whether or not this was racially motivated, it was certainly meant to get under his skin and wind him up. What is interesting is the precedent set here without any evidence. Evra says he called me X. Suarez said yes I did but it doesn't mean anything bad! On the other hand, we have John Terry who was clearly filmed using racially unacceptable language, has been caught out in a woeful excuse and has several of his fellow pros ready to give evidence against him. On paper, he should be banned for longer than "I forgot my drug test" Ferdinand. However, as I pointed out recently on another thread, the FA have an astonishing track record of rallying around internationals in the build up to major tournaments.....
The FA have set a dangerous precedent with this. As hotbovril says, he's been charged with no firm evidence whereas Terry can clearly be seen on camera using racial language. You'd think he would therefore get an equal if not more severe punishment, although I doubt that'll happen. Also an interesting point in Liverpool's statement that Suarez himself is actually mixed race (his grandfather is black). This kind of makes me think that the 'cultural differences' excuse used by Liverpool and Dalglish is probably a reasonable one. Terry on the other hand knew exactly what he was doing (although I wouldn't call him a 'racist' either)
Don't forget about the hand-ball on the line to deny Ghana in World Cup 2010. The guy's young and very talented, but he's already racking up quite a CV of unsavory instances. A worry for Liverpool fans, i'm sure - Probably reminds them of a certain Senegelese international they once had on their books...
As I understand it he used the term "negrito" which apparantly can be used in either a comeradly or an abusive way depending on context. I also believe that Suarez defence was that it was used in an affectinate comeradly way, if that was his defence then he has admitted he used it, so no other corroboartive evidence is needed that he actually used the words. The case then rests on the context, Liverpool v Man U, players on opposite teams in a crowded penalty area awaiting a corner with all the pushing and pulling usually associated, I guess the FA decided it was unlikely to have been an affectionate term of endearment towards a fellow professional. I tend to agree with them, certainly Evra didnt feel it was affectionate!
Quite right Huddersaint. The only evidence was Suarez actually saying that he said it. What was discussed/admitted at the hearing is just speculation. The JT case on the other hand is entirely different. You do not need to be a professional lipreader to work out what he said and his miserable attempt at covering it all up afterwards was risible. If he plays in an England shirt again, you might as well just stop the Kick it Out campaign now.
Indeed hotbovril, The Terry case does indeed look different. Certainly it is with the Police/CPS now (which I dont believe the Suarez case was, although I may be wrong) and a decision on prosecution is expected today. The outlook for Terry does indeed look grim, and assuming the facts of the case are as they appear to the outside observor then he should be expecting an FA punishment in excess of that handed to Suarez, let alone what the courts might decide should it get there.
It just throws me how the John Terry incident happened before the Suarez incident yet Suarez has been charged first Also there is a lot more evidence for the JT incident as opposed to Suarez, ridiculous!
The Terry incident is with the police and the FA can't act until that is completed (which is some time in the next couple of hours). The Suarez one was not so they could investigate it.
I lied...the CPS has passed it onto the police, after that is completed then the FA can deal with it. Which will probably be in quite a long time.
