Saying the severity of the ban must reflect there are facts we don't know is absolutely naïve. The FA clearly aren't a moral defending group. They appealed Rooney's ASSAULT ban out of personal interest. That means they aren't ones to act upon a moral compass. After a century of football, isn't it strange that the first person to be sentenced upon charges of racism is a foreigner? Are they saying that Luis Suarez is the first "racist" to ever play in England? That's mighty odd. Or have they decided to only prosecute him? That's discrimination. Another thing. The verdict causes a million pounds worth of lost wages and has forever damaged his working reputation (despite both Evra and the FA stating he is not a racist). Is that not cruel and unusual punishment? Especially if JT gets off with a lighter sentence? They accepted one persons word against another's as incriminating evidence, which is not admissible in any civilized court of law. Despite the aggravating factors against Evra ("you're only booking me cos I'm black") and the mitigating factors for Suarez (linguistic experts, context, being a minority himself) they somehow came to this verdict. It screams of a kangaroo court overstepping it's jurisdiction (try this case on in a real criminal court system, you'd see the result). How can a football court charge someone on a criminal offense? I'm gutted. I'd go for an appeal but it will be fruitless. If JT were to be acquitted I'd riot.
Over here they just shake their heads and say "well somebody has to live in Sydney!". But then that's WA's for you. Have a good Christmas, by the sounds of it, if I can remember anything about it I'll be lucky! But 31c and a morning on the beach will be good. If it wasn't for the price of beer and ***s I think I might just be tempted to stay!!
That's just the jealousy talking! Been here five years and still feels weird having a bbq on christmas day, usually in 35-40 degree sunshine! Oh yeah you too!
im still yet to see any evidence proving suarez was racist, how the **** can he be charged with no evidence?
So much ****e over 18 pages already! It's hard to debate the issue with no facts. So far we know that Suarez admitted to calling Evra something his team mates call him. Is there any evidence that Suarez used the word ânegritoâ or is that just urban legend? I personally would like at least some facts before I get right into this, as I wouldn't like to end up looking like a complete tool in a couple of days. Personally I'd be more inclined to call Evra a short-arsed Frog, which because it doesn't have the syllable "Nig" in it would be totally acceptable. However, even now, I am strongly of the opinion that the FA were biased and had an agenda, and Suarez was always on for a hiding.
I think a point has been missed here ,IF Suarez did admit that he used the word "negrita" then surely this act in it's self shows that he was using it in a non derogatory way!He would have to be extremely thick to admit saying something he knew to be offensive.
I really hope that **** doesn't get brought up again. Saint - supposedly the FA was looking at whether there was intent and whether or not Evra could have interpreted it as racist. Even if they deemed it was intented to be racistif the person on the receiving end is offended and the term used makes reference to the players colour then it is a racist comment ( whether intented or not). Do I think Suarez is racist ? - No. However I do think he has made a comment which he didn't need to make and was not as aware of what is acceptable in the EPL as he should have been. You need to ask if you walked into your office today ( or other work place ) and called someone negrito, if that is the case, as we still haven't heard the evidence, would you expect to be punished ? Most probably, so it should be different for overpaid footballers either. If cultural differences was an excuse our laws would go to ****- we'd have the dutch smoking weed in English bars and Americans walking round the streets with guns ( sorry Bluff ) etc.
This ^ THIS ^ THIS ^ Absolute disgrace. Ferguson knows the scum are going to win jack this season, so he's dropped our most influential player in the mire through his alchemic FA manipulations. Christ, I hate the french and Evra is a prime example of that race. Vile indeed.
Eric, you're comments are always reasonable so I'll give a considered answer. Intent is a fundamental criterion in passing judgement on a crime or misdemeanour. If I run someone over in a car different judgements would pertain according to intent. If it was a clearly unavoidable accident- I'm free. If I'm guilty of negligence it's manslaughter. If I drove it at them deliberately it's murder. An enormous difference. This is an analogy btw, I'm not making a comparison. As for me calling someone negrito it's an unfair comparison- I wouldn't use a word that is meaningless to me out of context in such a way. Having said all of that, Suarez's intention was more than likely to wind Evra up, but he's hardly alone there on a football pitch is he? You say you don't think Suarez is a racist, the point of most of the complainants on here is that he seems to have been punished for exactly that. If he's guilty of making a comment which was more offensive than he realised, through ignorance or whatever, then he could justifiably be reprimanded to bring home to him that it is unacceptable. The 8 match ban seems way over the top in this respect. As I said earlier, we all need to see the facts before we can pass judgement.
When it comes to getting sight of evidence, this club and its supporters don't seem to have much luck! There has to be an appeal. The club have been behind Suarez from the first and they must stick with that stance. Any deviation will demonstrate, rightly or wrongly, that we think he's guilty because we won't go through with the process to the end-game. If they truly believe he's innocent, they must stand by him and prove it. I believe they will. I can't go tonight, but I hope our boys are as vocal in support as they possibly can be This whole thing stinks of the Puppetmaster General pulling his well-used strings at the FA - AGAIN
Is this the same puppet master who got Ferdinand an eight month ban for missing a drugs test whilst one of our neighbours' players was banned for two games? Or the puppet master who got himself a touchline ban for complimenting a referee? Or the puppet master who got his player (Wayne Rooney) a three match premier league ban for an innoucuous sending off in a pre season friendly with no FA jurisdiction? That puppet master, you paranoid git?
In fairness that's not much over 20 years is it ? If I could be arsed I could trawl up a 100 occassions Fungus and united players get away with ****. It would be naive in the extreme to think Fergie has no influence with the FA/Prem League as manure have pretty much made the prem the vast majority of their cash over the years by being the stand out success story of the prem era. I haven't actually got a problem with that but lets not be naive enough to think it isn't the case. Lets be honest, Fergie will be delighted this morning and it won't be because he's seen a "racist" punished, it'll be because he's damaged Liverpools rise out of the doldrums of 12 months ago.
Nicely avoided Red, a little clumsily but avoided all the same. In all honesty I plucked three examples from the top of my head in order to refute Red's claim that we get all the decisions our way. There could be many, many more if I care to look into it. As there are no doubt plenty where they FA have ruled in United's favour. We don't get all the decisions and the FA are not in our favour.
Not being paranoid here (I hope) but answer me this. Can anyone tell me why the FA would not release the evidence at the same time as the verdict? Surely it would shut everyone up & show how justice was done. Surely as a prime goal of kicking racism out of football the FA doesn't want the waters muddied with the uninformed debate We & the media are having right now! Is it it a technicality? Because otherwise you start to see a motive in the timing. Declaring Suarez guilty while not showing how: result The public demonization of a player throughout the media. Because a lot of people are not making the FA's & Evras distinction that they believe Suarez is not a racist but merely used racist word/s... So how does this serve the best interests of the FA's declared policy?
