Playing devils advocate over LFC stance purely from business stance: On one side reasons to stand by Suarez even though you know he's guilty: 1)He's now probably worth 30 mill: don't want to damage the goods. 2)He's been one of the main catalysts in a much improved side. 8 games out could mean no Europe again. Now, Reasons why you wouldn't take this stance if he was actually guilty: 1)You'll get 30 mill or there abouts from a Spanish club regardless of whether he's a proven racist. Easier to sell him on. 30 mill versus possible hundred million in naming rights as investors back away from a club seen to be supporting racism. Future of new stadium put in jeopardy for the sake of an imported player with a shelf life of 7 years or so.... Not my business but I know which would look the better move & yet LFC has done the opposite...why?
I agree it's unacceptable, and he should face some length of ban. But neither you or I know his real intention (and probably never will, because he'll say he wasn't aware of it's meaning, while others will say this is a lie) so I don't agree that you should be calling bullshit either way.
You have to look at past form. Suarez has a history of misbehaviour, and the FA have probably used that to reach a conclusion. I'm all for him getting a ban, racism shouldn't be tolerated, and it's good to see the FA are finally (belatedly) cracking down. Funny though, when it happens to a Man U player, a massive punishment happens for the aggressor. I wonder if Suarez had offended Alex Song, would the punishment still be the same....
Fair enough. But we've both been subjected to enough maniacs (KPRs various guises) to know what a real one speaks like!
Ah, gotcha. And its because I know your having hormone troubles right now, but luv will sort them all out later
So in short we have it that: 1. Suarez is not a racist 2. He has been percieved as making racist remarks 3. He has recieved his punishment 4. This is up for appeal 5. He will serve his punishment 6. After serving his punishment rival fans will hold this against him alot longer than Patrice Evra ever will. (Unless Suarez was to join their club of course.) 7. Proffessional football players will continue to insult each other on the pitch for the rest of time.
For the record, I don't entirely disagree with your point of view like many seem to on here. You personally may have stronger feelings on this matter than others, and that's just the point; it'll always be a matter of personal opinion in these kind of cases. But, yes. A punishment is fair. Maybe it's just the length that the club are offended by?
Chris can't handle all of this malarky. He's gone on a drinking binge till kick off tomorrow. please log in to view this image
