It has the same effect. Why do you think Evra reported it? He was offended by it. If he thought it was an acceptable word then he would not have reported it.

I don't always think the crime fits the punishment, but that wouldn't get me out of the trouble. It's best just to accept their law and not break it.

Do you actually have anything constructive to say?

If your talking to someone in Spanish and they are talking to you, you're hardly going to change language for one word mid conversation to avoid insult.

Say the word black was deemed racist in france, and yoy were mid conversation with someone in English over there, you are hardly going to say "my favourite colour is noir" its not linguistically natural

Davidako never has anything constructive to say. In fact its rare to see him on the Liverpool board as he spends most of his time trolling the Utd board.

So, like the op says, if you believe some one is not guilty..

You have to pretend you feel they are guilty and stop supporting them

Im sure all opposition fans would do the above if one of there family hasd been wrongly convicted of a crime,NOT!!!!!!!!!!

That's such a fanboy response. So you are saying he wasn't offended at all? Or are you just bitter that a rival player reported one of your own?

I think Saurez is a brilliant player and I think Liverpool are a fantastic club, but I think both have handled this whole affair badly. Fortunately Liverpool appear to have realised this and have dropped any appeal.

I take your point but you have to factor in the context in which the word is used, Suarez directed the comment at Evra. If he had been talking about a black pencil then things would have been different.

obviously the answer is to refer to the little black dress his wife wears rather than call him a little... etc etc... come on guys the available evidence (not supposition) points to a goal mouth mutual goading session following which another incident took place with the ref. Neither were friendly as suarez claimed and it is this that hung him in conjunctive with his own manager and director's ham fisted evidence. he was not believable. what he said was unconvincing so the FA took the word of the other guy. They went too far in the sentence though that much is also plain to see but then LF have gone too far in what they have said in their statements too.

I think i can safely say 90% of people would have much rather seen a quick and speedy hearing which resulted in a 4 match ban in the same week of the incident and an clear and strong statement that words do matter and we must all learn form it.

finally now the FA has painted itself into a corner it has a devil of a task to deal with terry. Clearly his case will be dealt with in the courts but thats nothing once over (and right smack in the euros probably) the fa will have to give him a minimum of 4 matches and to be frank they've set a precedence here 8 matches is not anywhere in the rule and so if terry only gets 4 matches i can see this whole thing re-emerge again once more.

In failing to speedily deal with this and deliver a sentence that was in line with historic precedence (sheffield utd player) they've caused themselves no end of bother...

This. I agree that the FA probably had one eye on this case and another on the pending Terry one. I've said it before and I say it again, JT's buggered.

Surely you see that using is racist word to describe a person is worse than using it to describe a pencil? My point is it is not acceptable to use the word but obviously there are situations where use of the word is more offensive than other situations.

The word 'negro' is not a racist word, its variant - ngr <blush> - is commonly considered to be and is derived from the French word negre (now out of use)

'Black' is not a racist word.

Suarez was trying to insult tit-for-tat - Evra was also rude - but how are you supposed to describe those of dark-skinned race? Are you not supposed to mention it at all?

It's plain as the nose on all our faces that Evra has a different skin colour.

Lord Ouseley's statement made my blood boil!

Mr Evra reported the word said as "******". This was the complaint as submitted to the FA.

Mr Suarez denied saying ****** ever. He admitted to one use of "Negro".

So we aren't sure if Mr Evra was ever offended by "Negro", since he never heard that word. That had to be coached out of him by the FA panel, so he could then be offended by Negro, a word used by his team mates to call him by. If his team mates call him by Negro, how is a culturally unfamiliar person going to know not to use the word?

    This!

Negro here might be some sort of racial slur but in hispanic speaking countries it does just mean "Black". Obviously context is the issue here but i personally think 8 games for someone who didn't mean to cause any offence and didn't say anything he knew to be wrong or with any malice is a bit harsh.

I say it was no malice because Evra has said he doesn't think Suarez is racist.
