International ban doesn't necessarily exclude friendlies, so simple to get round. And nine Liverpool games is less than he got for Ivanovic, so a lesser punishment.

And oddly it doesn't cover transfers, so he can still talk to other clubs, agree personal terms, get a medical, sign a contract - but NOT take part in any Administrative Function of football? FIFA does well yet again......

He'll miss one of our games, but be free for all 4 against Leicester/Burnley. Gives us a little edge in the relegation battle!

Is the ban with immediate effect?

Yes, unless they appeal. He can appeal, as can Uruguay. Liverpool can't.

He's not allowed into any football stadiums either, so unless friendly is on Hackney Marsh, think he will not be able to play

No - INTERNATIONAL friendlies. So they just arrange loads of friendlies from November onwards, when he's allowed back into the grounds. Get the ban completed by next April. Then he's back in time for Copa America 2015, and where's the punishment then?

I think they said the ban stands for the Colombia game even if they do appeal. Might be wrong as the woman reading the statement was difficult to understand.

There is no punishment. Whilst he is a prodigious talent, the guy ain't got all his sh1t in one bag. Season long ban MINIMUM!!!

They're saying the international ban is only for competitive matches, so I guess he's out of the Copa America.

He can't appeal against the length of the ban, only the fine. So he will definitely not play again in the WC. I can't see any appeals happening as the punishment is pretty lenient considering this is his third biting offence.

If Luis Suarez is suspended for nine matches and for four months from any football related activity, which in his case involves eating, he'll starve to death!!

This is more than I thought they'd do , I was thinking 12 games/months but thinking they'd only give him 6 months international ban.
So they banned him for three months more and also about 8-10 Liverpool matches.
This hinders him getting a move elsewhere too so he doesn't benefit at all.

Well done FIFA! **** me, now there's a sentence I never thought I'd type!

Anyone born with those choppers why not use them i say

Seriously now they need to punish all violent action in the game ... where do they start?

Ban them also for play acting.... just as bad as

If the italian player hadn't said anything nothing would of happened ... my point is worse things happen on the pitch with elbows than teeth

what's wrong with biting? compared with kicking someone's leg on purpose or a well directed elbow ... now that could kill someone?

what about words and insults? some people are left very scared by abuse ... look at Zidane and those wind up boys the Italians ... I would of done exactly that and worse if i got an insult plus i would of smashed him up in the tunnel after the match. I hope someone gets that Italian who could of insulted Suarez who knows. Look what happened to John Terry ... I bet you anything that given the chance then a QPR fan would have killed him that day ... we are not all blameless

Suarez is a brilliant player and will bounce back and i hope he does

Personally I think the man is a dickhead and wish we'd seen the last of his kind. Unfortunately, football has a track record of putting money ahead of what's right and proper.

The fine is a joke, Nicklas Bendtner got more than that for wearing Paddy Power underpants! Shows where FIFA's priorities lie...

He may well not be paid for those four months, that several million as well.

I assume the fine will be increased as that's what Uruguay have appealed and its obviously frivolous.

In 3.5 years, he's been banned for just about a season without being sent off once. Its not losing his rag, he's cold and calculated about not being caught which to me is even worse.

Its not just a temper but he knows what he's doing and is sneaky when he's doing it.
