Different players. Rooney should start behind Sturridge. Rooney should be the first name on the team sheet IMO. He's our only truly world class player.
Barkley's a good player and has huge potential, but Wilshere is already a top player for me and we should be utilising him as much as we can. See this is the view I object to. Sturridge is right up there with the top strikers in the world at the moment and for all his ability, you can't say that often enough about Rooney. His bad spells seem to last longer and be more frequent than his good spells. Sturridge has class and shows it week in, week out. Every goal he scores impresses me. His finishing is brilliant.
Paging "The Crab". Nothing? Several Italian league players have been accused of corruption after they missed their penalties. The goalkeepers who saved the penalties are also rumoured to be involved. If only one of the players was the Brazilian renaissance painter/scientist Leonardo!
Rooney's not world class as far as I'm concerned - he's not had a good season since 09/10. Sturridge however has been world class since he first joined Liverpool.
Does anyone else not have the foggiest what that was all about? Was it posted on the wrong thread or something?
Sturridge used to be ridiculously selfish but he has always been a very natural finisher. I think the loan period at Bolton was his making as it was a kick up the backside and a bit of a 'you're not all that' moment for him. BR has brought him on even further and he's clearly matured.
Seriously? Neither you nor Macca have seen BCC mention his admiration of Rooney's world-class ability (so much so that I am unable to find a single reference to it using the search box)?
Play Sturridge and Rooney as a front pair, don't give them positions and say one is to play just off the other, they both like to float around the pitch and get about. A bit of discipline between ten to make sure one always stays central when the other buggers off for a bit but otherwise just stuck em on the pitch and leave them to their own devices. The chaps playing either side of them on the flanks will be the important part of the puzzle, no greedy ****ers like Townsend who just want to constantly blast it from 5 million yards out, we need 2 wide men who will come in to support and join in the quick clever pass and move Rooney and Sturridge would produce. Chamberlain is the obvious choice, probably Lallana the other.
The Walcott/Lennon type winger who are byline byline byline aren't suited to Rooney or Sturridge as they both prefer an early ball to run on to behind the defence. I concur that Ox and Lallana are much more intelligent and use the ball better out wide. Gerrard and Wilshere in the centre, BINGO!
I don't know, I think both would do well with Walcott surging forward and pulling it back, but I think we'd be better with the bunch of them playing like Oscar - Mata - Hazard dd for Chelsea last season where they just interchange and float about all over rather than being more strictly left winger, right winger, in the hole, striker. As long as Rooney and Sturridge pay attention to each other and make sure one of them is always in the danger area to sniff out the finishing touch on a move, just stick the 4 of them on the pitch and let them get on with it. I think give Rooney and Sturridge strict fixed positions then they'll fail, both are suited to having a free role, even if they are very different players.
I haven't seen the list, but did they take out penalties for the players that take them since they're basically a free goal for anyone who's not English? (or taking it at Old Trafford) Him and Crouch up front then.
Sturridge has a promising talent and skills. If I am not mistaken he is the second best striker in the premier league.
We are certainly glad to have him. His previous spells at Chelsea and City can be explained by his age and the mentality of the club. Never got a proper chance at either - a sustained run of games is what kicks players on. At Chelsea he knew that unless he scored he'd be benched for months. He was selfish for this reason and when he got sent to Bolton on loan he really shaped up. He was constantly in fear of being replaced so its hard to be focused on your game at clubs like that. Humble too unlike others. He's found his groove at Anfield. His record is insane, 32 goals in 39 appearances I think it is for us. That is similar to Ibrahimovic's record this season And he isn't exactly playing in front of weak defences either. I'm not English but I want to see him do well for your national team. Henderson and Sterling have contributed to his good form but its not even considered form anymore. More of a default setting. He's got a long way to go yet and if we keep leaking goals all our hard work and his goals will be in vain. Your lot exposed our defences this season and its the defensive side we need to fix to get the best from Sturridge.
Humble? The one criticism of him I've heard and noticed at Liverpool is that he's selfish. I suppose that's not necessarily arrogant, but it's still a criticism of his game...
A Sturridge/Rooney pairing is potentially the most mouthwatering English attacking combo in years. It would be madness if Welbeck got the nod ahead of him.
He's not that selfish but I wouldn't want to be playing with him if he was on a hat trick. The way our game is set up it is fine to be selfish at times and he knows when it's acceptable and when it isn't. I meant it more in the arrogant way, he never brags or acts overconfident.
