So looks like culling is about to start in the U23 squad as Stokes has just been released. Bound to happen as we have loads of strikers and centre backs

I'm so sorry to see him go. Can't imagine why they let him go. Perhaps he wasn't learning Spanish quickly enough.

I'm pretty sure that he'll go on to have a great career elsewhere.

 

Jock can you see a plan for developing these players, because right now it just looks like a bank where players are expected to earn interest in the future. I cant see how any of the U23s is going to get game time especially strikers and CBs. We have an academy, an U17 squad and an U23 squad. Im hoping some of the U23s are young enough for the 17 squad but it doesnt make any sense to me right now. The Forrest green Rovers kid was wanted by plenty of clubs so we obviously have a system but .....

 

Bank? you're being polite. I don't think there's any doubt that we've opened a meat market.

Objectives? I'm guessing:

* unearthing the odd nugget
* selling on good players short of our standard
* financial fair play benefits

But releasing Stokes doesn't fit in with any of these 3 objectives. Wasn't that long ago he was in the first team squad, and even got game time. In fact, have we ever sold anyone from the Academy of late? I can't think of one.

Btw, don't we have 3 teams - u23, u18 & u16?

According to the web site its academy, U17s and U23s. Maybe they can put a team together to compete against some U18s teams.

I agree on Stokes as he was ahead of Wilks but Jack Clarke is the new golden boy and the young kid who has just gone to play for Bulgaria. But look at the numbers of strikers here
