There was a young man called Sordell,
We thought he could play very well;
But he couldn't quite,
In fact he was ****e,
At least he is Bolton's to sell.

I was chuffed when we signed Sordell ...not sure what to make of him presumably he's a goalscorer so needs service and gets none. But without scoring he seems to do nothing at all.
I want Obika

I suppose Spurs are playing hardball over Obika, they probably don't have a pot to piss in:grin: Off-topic I know, but there's no excuse for them keeping Their goalie on after he had been knocked unconscious.. Anyone with any basic first-aid knowledge will tell you that he should have gone straight to hospital for a check up. Shocking.

Teams

@CAFCofficial: Charlton U21: Pope; Osborne, Thomas, Gomez, Fox; Muldoon, Poyet, Jordan, Munns; Hippolyte, Pigott (OG) #cafc

@CAFCofficial: Subs: Phillips, Barnes, Holmes-Dennis, ****ta, Sho-Silva, Daniel (OG) #cafc

Is that really his name ****ta?

Apparantly he is a midfielder from Ebbsfleet.

I was never too impressed with Obika, but if he is to be any good it will be over the longer term. No point in signing him on a short-term loan unless we have a realistic chance of signing him permanently. If not I would rather we take our chances with Pigott, Azeez, etc. Anyway I would see him as an alternative to Sordell and Church rather than as a stand-in for Kermit, which is what we most need.

Kane is a different matter. I should think we have nil chance of signing him permanently but he is more the target man type off whom Church, Stewart or Sordell could feed. And he has lots of recent first team experience so he is more ready to come in on a one-month loan to see us through this sticky period for strikers.

Maybe it will turn out to be Rob Hulse again. He is exactly the type we need, though obviously a less clapped-out version.

I know we are desperately thin, but knowing CP's dire record with loans I won't weep if we go without, even if that means dropping a couple of points.

Not sure why we signed that Daniel guy (Palace reject). We are consistently picking younger players in front of him and his best position is left-back which is where we already have most cover (Wiggins, Evina, Fox, Holmes-Dennis).

It won't be Hulse, Eddie as he has retired.

Full time it finished Charlton 2 Southampton 1. Our goals came from Gomez and Hippolyte.

Obviously I was joking about him coming back, but I had not realised he had retired. I am glad he has (hopefully) saved enough to enjoy the rest of his life without having to suffer the humiliation of sliding down from tier to tier with the passing years.

Having said that, a few players seem to actually enjoy playing at whatever level they can get a game, regardless of money. Most have had enough though. It is not just the physical wear and tear. It is all the bullshit and spitefulness they have to put up with (and in some cases contribute to) in the modern game.

An honest pro. He came to us a year too late.

He's been playing LM for us. Maybe they hope that he can eventually fill that problem position for us.
I'm a bit nervous about Gomez playing for the under-21's. At the moment I think he's only worth £200,000 to us if Chelsea nick him. When they took Palmer there were over 100 scouts at that Youth Cup game, and I wouldn't be over-concerned if he had a "niggle" when we play the Youth Cup this year.

Neither did I, eddie - thanks for the information, dick.

Agree 100% with your assessment of him. Real hard worker, lethal close-range finisher and splendid target man. It would have been interesting to see what impact he would have had if our bid for him about four seasons before he finally joined us had been accepted.
