My belief that we will bring in another striker is predicated on Vaughan going out on loan. Vaughan has just turned 24. Since his debut for Everton, he has made circa 92 appearances for various clubs, that's 92 appearances in 7 years, an average of 12 games a season. His injury history shows that it is not a single recurrent problem, but a catalogue of different ones, pretty much all unrelated. As I see it, his career is at a make or break point where what he needs is to be playing first team football more or less week in week out. With us, particularly if we are going to be playing with a single striker, he is unlikely to get that. What is the point in him sitting on the bench at this stage? There's talent there but it needs to be let out by playing regularly. If there's a club that will offer him that opportunity, the best thing for him and NCFC would be to take it. Come the 2013-14 season he might have managed what Van Persie managed for the first time last season for Arsenal, a full season playing first team football. If he breaks down again he would have to come back from his loan and both he and the club would have some serious thinking to do. I feel really sorry for the lad. It must be hugely frustrating, and he must have a lot of guts to keep working hard season after season to keep the dream alive. Either we have to give him the chance to play regularly, or we have to let him give it a go elsewhere. That's how I see it anyway.
I'm not sure why people seem convinced we'll go with 1 striker. Is it a Hoooton trait? I see no reason why we won't be starting with Holt/Jackson or Morison/Jackson.
Current fashion is for one striker isn't it, but I think Hughton will show as much tactical variation as Lambert and we will see a number of different formations.
Holt - Hopefully can repeat last season or better if he gets more game time. Morison - Up front with Holt will do a decent job, I have little doubt of that. Martin - Time for him to move on. Jackson - Same as Moro, a great alternative with his pace and he has proved he can score goals when he gets a run in the team. Vaughan - has looked very useful on his odd rare appearance last season but I would need to see him get more game time to evaluate better. Get one striker in to replace Chris Martin but I have no idea who, all comes down to fees and wages. Whoever plays, I really hope we play with two strikers in most games
