like Ian Wright, small but a good headerer of the ball... Defoe doesn't quite fit in... his head is shaped like a 50p coin.

See, Shearer and Sheringham worked, Sheringham could have worked with anyone, his game was superb.

Wright, Cole even Fowler, were great goalscorers, but **** for England, and fairly limited all round.

England missed a trick, not for the first (or last) time.

For the record, my favourite Sunderland striker ever is not Mr Phillips, but Mr Gabbiadini, because as a 10 year old kid, it's more like hero worship than football fanatasism!

My hero is Shearer, I hated Football until I saw him play and then I chose Newcastle... I had a lot of Shearer stuff as a kid... figure, cards, Shearer shirt and numerous posters... The guy is unreal.

    Same order as you Syd.
I think (unbiasedly) anyone putting Shearer anywhere apart from 1st is ridiculous, he's the all time top premier scorer. SKP was great for yous, but he was very poor in large parts of his career. Don't get me wrong, when on top of his game, he was unreal. If Cisse can keep up anything like 15 goals a season for a few years he'll leapfrog SKP imo.

Given the same support that Shearer had Philips would have been just as good, without being selfish arrogant and lazy if things weren't going his way. Now I'm not saying that Shearer isn't an excellent strikers he is but he had issues.

That's just it, Shearer didn't. Regardless of supply, Phillips would never have got near Shearer's level. No shame in that though.

For me swap number 2 for number 1, Attitude, and somebody who is a team player. Shearer never was a team player,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ENGLAND V BELGUIM,,,,,SOL,,,,,,,,,, Shearer would not pass to superkev. But superkev kept trying to give Shearer the best support possible.end of realy.

why have the dynamic duo been overlooked??

guivarc'h and laslandes would wipe the floor compared with a skp shearer partnership, surely..?

If those issues where scoring goals, yes. He became a record goalscorer... unparalleled by any other striker.
