Blackpool's Jerry Yates celebrates scoring his teams opening goal against Peterborough United on Tuesday

Bristol City are keen to bolster their attacking options with the signing of Blackpool star Jerry Yates, according to reports.

Yates has 14 goals and three assists for the Tangerines this season, prompting interest from several Championship clubs.

The 24-year-old came through the ranks at Rotherham United before a superb 14-goal loan spell with Swindon Town in League Two before last season was curtailed put him on the radar.

Yates penned a three-year deal with Blackpool for an undisclosed six-figure fee last summer and has hit his stride after a steady start to the season.

He scored twice in Tuesday's 3-1 win over promotion-hunting Peterborough United, boosting Blackpool's hopes of a play-off berth.

But his future may lie away from Bloomfield Road, according to freelance journalist Pete O'Rourke, who reports City, Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers are chasing Yates' signature.

The Robins' attack has not flowed freely this season, with Fam Diedhiou and Nakhi Wells atop the scoring charts with eight goals apiece. Jamie Paterson is next on the list with three goals, with City – now under the leadership of Nigel Pearson – scoring just 39 goals in 38 Championship games with the club's hopes of a play-off berth crumbling after an excellent start to the campaign.

There is uncertainty over Senegal international Diedhiou's future at Ashton Gate, too. The 28-year-old is out of contract and talks over a new deal have dragged on for months with the growing suspicion that Diedhiou will leave BS3 this summer.

His possible departure could give City a chance to refresh their striking department, and Yates is a player on the rise who appears ready to step up to the Championship again after testing the waters of the second tier with the Millers early in his career.

If we were to look into L1 for a striker, and I'm not sure that is the answer, I'd prefer either Wyke at Sunderland, or Jephcott at Plymouth, who's shot accuracy is very good

Funny that, ex "gashead" at the top scorer, LJ man 2nd place top scorer but best goal conversion not wanted, Nige don't let history repeat itself...<whistle><whistle>

I would imagine much bigger fish than us are already checking out Clarke-Harris and Wyke
 
It is strange with [ some ] strikers how they develop … suddenly as 18 - 23 year olds they come alive and set the world on fire.. have a good couple of years then fizzle out.... or as an older player suddenly it all comes together and on they are on fire for a year or so ..... and smoulder to an end.
change of club can mean change of ability … Nakhi not done well, Bobby not done well ….. etc

A lot of our ex players do well...…
Only have to look at Luke Ayling, Josh Brownhill, Bobby Reid, Joe Bryan etc - all playing regular Premiership football and living the dream

Let me put it this way.

Pearson is the manager who signed Jamie Vardy for Leicester.

I will trust his judgement.

**** me I wasn't expecting the Spanish inquisition. it was an observation.

1. He was the manager and Mark Ashton wasn't there.
2. Hardly he left Leicester with the basis of a premiership winning squad (a proper 'decent' squad, not an imitation one).
3. Ummmm I will pass on that one, who the f*** knows.

It was a questionable observation based on....not a lot!!

The only thing questionable about transfer activity at BCFC is the previous 3/4 years, a policy that led us to sign for instance Lois Diony and offer in the region of 7 to 10 mil if the loan was successful, signed along with Ryan Kent to propel us from our then lofty position in the league into the prem.

Hopefully through recent words and deeds, it looks as though at least a third of our 'decent' squad will be on their way.

My point is I would rather trust the instincts of Pearson, than any combination of Ashton, LJ and Holden.

Hope you're right, we will of course see where it takes us.. I hope he sticks it out with him and SL & co staying on the same page........
Of course you're bound to go on one, blaming it on previous reigns, if it doesn't work out!!
I'm not yet totally sucked in to NP as you are, what he's done for previous clubs are irrelevant as far as our club is concerned . For me, the jury is still out and will see how things pan out before acknowledging whether he's doing a good job or not....So far, I can't knock the progress so far, I certainty think he's brought in some form of stability after the failure of Deano...
I do find his over detailed analysis of games to be a bit annoying, seems to want to show that he has everything under his control and we should believe every word he says...........maybe we should.........but maybe if we don't, we are all Ostriches!!!

The first highlighted sentence is just an invented lie. LJ bit by bit got rid of Cotterill's squad and then the squad became his and hopefully Pearson will do the same and have to stand by his decisions, that's life with no hiding place, if the players serially let the manager down and the manager gets sacked like LJ and Holden then that's sad but it happens, I suspect Pearson realises that a lot of this squad will inevitably make him the 3rd manager that they have seen off and is acting now.

The 2nd at least it shows experience in the area that we have historically been totally devoid in.

I agree he will be judged over lets say 4 years, that would be fair wouldn't you agree?, The difference is for once we have hope where there was none and hopefully clarity in our dysfunctional transfer policy, but what I would like to congratulate SL, Ashton, LJ and Holden on is especially under the current restrictions that they allowed so many contracts to run down, for me it will root out those who want to be here and those who do not.

Steady on 1for - 'what he's done for previous clubs are irrelevant as far as our club is concerned....' I don't agree with that. Past achievements don't guarantee success (Danny Wilson anyone?) but they can't be ignored either.
