I've read in the paper this morning that they are now playing a 'beating heart' sound over the PA at Selhurst park, during the time it takes VAR to make a decision.

That's the single dumbest thing I've ever read about VAR, and how it is becoming part of the pantomime entertainment of modern football.
Stupid jingles being played when the home team scores was bad enough. As though fans are so brainless that they need a cue to celebrate a goal.

But supposedly tension-raising sound effects accompanying the wait for VAR decisions?
Turning something that fans shouldn't have to put up with at all, into a part of the showbiz 'fun'?
What next, for pity's sake. Football in the prem is becoming a silly Punch and Judy show.

I was sideways on parallel to the Aneke foul - it was a 100%, stonewall penalty.

Same as me, in the NWQuadrant, that's what I thought at the time.But listening to Charlton Live discussing it, they didn't agree; Aneke fouled the defender first, then could have avoided him. So if that's what Charlton fans thought, a VAR official would be unlikely to give a penalty.
 
The sole purpose of VAR is now to rule out beautifully crafted goals, because some obscure part of an attacking player's body is millimetres offside.

THREE terrific strikes this weekend - chalked off, for nothing.

Unless the boneheaded prats in charge of this kind of nonsense can be forced to see sense, the whole thing should be scrapped.
It is Killing football.

The whole notion of a computer generated line on a video picture striking off a fantastic goal is frankly offensive.
It places a technicality above everything that is wonderful about football.
Skill, hunger, teamwork, joy and celebration - all rendered worthless by a machine.

Enough already. It's way beyond a f*cking joke now.

Referees are not supposed to be GOD (all knowing, all seeing).
VAR is trying to make them that. And it will never work.

Football is a game played by human beings, and refereed by human beings for over 150 years.
It's all about human passions and emotions, the very best of us that makes life worth living.

Take the actual God as an example (if we can assume he exists, for the sake of the argument).
Does he intervene in every decision made by people?
Does he correct every injustice? Save the innocent and punish the guilty? Does he impose infallible justice and 100% certainty in his Creation?

Of course he doesn't.
We seek to better ourselves because of the freedom we have been given to do that.
If God did it for us, what would be the point in anything?

Football DOES NOT NEED an all seeing, all knowing, 100% always right refereeing system.
Any more than Humanity needs it.
Total justice = total control. Zero freedom, zero spontaneity or unpredictability. No spice of life.

Technology has its limits, and VAR is a prime example of what happens when those limits are ignored.
 
The genie is out of the bottle now. Goal-line technology-fine; VAR as it stands is a monster, but it is here to stay. Those 3 goals should not have been ruled out, but a bit of common sense needs to prevail. Refs a have been under attack for years by losing managers, and TV pundits scrutinising every detail with the benefit of numerous replays. Once we learn the limits of VAR it could be a useful tool in the ref's armoury.

Quite.

VAR should be a tool used only when there has been a clear and obvious mistake or something blatant not seen by the officials.

Offside is not a black-and-white business like the goal line issue.
It needs to bow to interpretation, and wise points of view like favouring the attacking side, and allowing play when competitors are level to the naked eye in real time.
That is part of what makes Football a uniquely quick, fluid and marvelous game to watch.

VAR should not be used to do a forensic autopsy on every goal, looking for ridiculous and microscopic reasons to rule it out.
The fault lies with the utter fools who are deciding what it is used for.
 
It's just happened AGAIN!

The Wolves team should have walked off.
This disallowing good goals is an absolute disgrace.

A bunch of jobsworth officials are sucking the life out of football, and embarrassing the Premier League in front of a global audience.
The PL ought to have a serious word with these twats.
Tell them to stop chalking off great goals, or forget about VAR ever being used again after the end of this season.
