There’s something about the driving rain when you’re snug somewhere by the sea that’s absolutely magical.
Mrs R&W and I went to Burgh Island for an anniversary weekend many many years ago (1990?) and we walked across at low tide. When we got there the skies emptied and the tide came in so we were cut off until the morning. We went to the Pilchard Inn and sat by the real fire there listening to the wind howling and the rain lashing and the sea raging - it was enchanting.
We stayed in the Deco hotel on the island - which had its own magic - but that afternoon in the snuggly pub by the fire whilst the weather did its best to ruin the moment but failed - was wonderful.

I imagine a few beers helped the ambiance as well.
