Cavani is poor. Doesnt look particularly good in a second rate French league. Hummels has already committed to Dortmund.

Defence isnt a major issue like attack. We definitely need at least one striker. A defender would be a bonus (though i suspect we will get one or two in (ottamendi and/or Ramos).

I think you are lacking one great player in both departments.
I just used those as an example, but I think you are one CF and one CB away from a title challenge (provided they are of good quality of course).

With De Gea more likely to stay, defence isnt a major issue. Of course it would be wise to improve but we did happen to have one of the best defences last season. Add the two Sch's and the defence is already better than last season.

Jones and Smalling have both signed new deals too.

Jones especially. The things he does to win that ball.

Jones is the better of the two, but they are not the quality of defender United should be settling for, not if they want to win league titles.

Can we at least discuss this in the best team thread, not this ****e posted by a halfwit?!?!

Anyway, I'm happy enough with the defence. I don't believe we need a centre half, Smalling and Jones are one year more experienced with two very, very good CM's in front. I don't foresee a problem.

We do need a back up centre forward though. Sad to say but maybe the Di Maria/Cavanni exchange is possible? It's one fewer wide attacker to deal with, and we have plenty, and one additional striker, of which we have few.

Halfwit is being generous, I'd have him down as a quarterwit.

I'm very surprised nobody has been linked with him much so far tbh. If they sign him and Cavani/Lewendowski then Utd will be red hot favourites for the league.

Hummels has said he's staying at Dortmund.

Cavani I would love to have. I think with the players at United, Arsenal or Chelsea he would score for fun.

I'm sure BD wouldn't refuse upwards of 30-40 million though.

We've been linked with him since December. Lots of talk about how much LVG rates him and knows him etc. It became like tge signing was inevitable. I just think if any of that was true, we'd have signed him by now. And at the very least the player himself wouldnt be saying he's staying at his club.

If we sign a CB it will very likely be Otamendi. I'd be happy with him.

Yet he struggles to score while playing in a poor league, with what is unquestionably, a decent side. Probably par with those you have named.

Just dont see it. I know hes often shifted out wide for PSG but im the French league its no excuse. 18 goals isnt a bad total but its about the same as scoring 10 in the Premier League. I would expect more.

Put it this way, if he was as good as you think, he wouldn't be playing for psg in a poor league against Championship and League One quality opposition. A big club would have snapped him up. Hes apparently been unhappy in France since he got there too.

And of course, getting him would fuel the Di Maria to PSG rumours.

A much better rumour for a much better striker is doing the rounds though. Highly unlikely but apparently Lewandowski's agent says we would need to make a 35million bid to convince Bayern to sell.

Hes the sort of striker we should be looking at if we are to spend big. Not that we will be going for him.

Why not Dzeko? If City would sell of course (trade them Evans for their quota?). Good striker who wouldn't expect to be a starter every game.

That's a very simplistic view. I could say that over 1 goal every 2 games is excellent for any striker. Or that he played in a poor league for Napoli and scored 75+ goals in about 100 games.

But he is a beast with pace and power who will thrive off Herrera, Schneiderlin, Mata, Depay and Rooney. I have no doubts about that, having seen him play.

The worse the league the more they should be scoring. He was hot property in Italy and despite it being a poor league at the time, it was still better than anything hes done at PSG.

Plus there is the issue of stepping up to a big league. Quite a few have struggled to do so over the years, most recently Falcao and years ago, Henry struggled massively to perform when he stepped up from France to Italy. Even Zidane wasn't amazing when he first left France.

Its a piss easy league to compete in. Several players have commented about the quality or lack of. It would be a risk signing any player from their.
