This has nothing to do with Irish Republican songs. Truth be told, it was those singing these songs that addressed this racism. Not the club.

And you're the ugly side of Celtics support. A self centered dick with nothing on his mind beyond his own sad politics and agenda.

Celtic is a football club not a platform for fannies to spout their backwards politics from another island. Sing it in Ireland keep it the **** out of Scotland.

Because your argument is both outdated and stupidly ignorant to the point of being blind allegiance.

Your argument of history is invalid as we are constantly changing. Lets hang some witches at the next game as historically that was something we did.

Shove your IRA and your politics up your hole Reb. That's all the rational debate you'll get from me

We are constantly changing and the songs have changed to reflect that.

Ideals around freedom and self determination are hardly outdated. FFS there is a debate in Scotland going on about that very thing.

    But that is different yeah<doh>

Singing "Ooh Ahh Up The 'Ra" is about freedom and self-determinism?

<laugh> What a sad strange life you live

That is part of a song about Celtic. Not one about freedom and self determination.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree RL. I believe that attending the funeral of a friend is no-one else's business but I don't know if the club saw it that way or not and in the end, that is what matters in all of this. The idea that the club has been damaged by the actions of Anthony Stokes could be regarded as somewhat subjective and I presume the club will have weighed things up in mostly financial terms. That, of course, is just my opinion and from what I've read of the comments on here, this 'debate' is not going to end in agreement ... though it could be endless! I certainly don't see the point in dismissing anyone's opinion in a derogatory fashion and for what it's worth I have not read any post that has convinced me that Anthony Stokes was in the wrong in attending the funeral or indeed that Reb's logic has been less than faultless.

While I concur with the view that Celtic fans have a plethora of great song which are not historical or political in nature and that they would better serve themselves and the club by restricting themselves to these, I think we have to beware conceding to the racist element in Scotland by allowing them to think songs commemorating the Irish War of Independence are in some way wrong.

They are not. No more so than FOS dedicated to the Scottish war of independence is wrong. In fact given that the IWOI occurred historically recently it can be argued to be more relevant in forming relations within the British Isles.

In regarding the IRA we have to remember that the old version fought a bloody civil war against the dissidents and that the Irish govt eventually outlawed them.

We should also recall that very recently HMQ laid a wreath at the Garden Of Remembrance of TBOTOB..

I will say that I do not expect many of the followers of SEVCO to see the irony in the above.

There isn't a problem with songs about the Irish war of independence . The problem occurs when add ons and songs are sung about the Provisional IRA . Or your IRA songs upset and intimidate people under our new shiny legislation .

But singing GSTQ can get you huckled under that legislation . How bloody racist is that ? Shocking .
