I think Man Utd were trying to bring a minimum attendance requirement. Football as we knew it is ****ed. They have just announced Cup replays will be scrapped from next season.
The bulk of my attendance was in the 80s and 90s, so it's already changed from what I knew. Last time I attended city was two years ago on a corporate, as a mate's hull-cleaning company sponsored a pitch side hoarding (yes, that was the reason why he sponsored city), so I cant really comment on attendances these days.
I took a lad I coach, and his dad who has become a bit of a mate, on Saturday and they loved it. They go to Ferriby most home games. When I told him what I pay for memberships for me and the missus and 3 x kids he was amazed and has decided he is going to look at getting the seats behind us. I also know that's how the bloke in front started. Took his lad to one game on a cheap ticket and have been members for a year now. There is a lot to be said for these offers. Acun has brought a feel good factor back and the food is fantastic too. If we carry on improving on the pitch with some football like we saw against Leicester there is a decent chance these people will stick. Even at £30 a month its affordable for most people. Hats off to the club for getting bums on seats again.
I think the prices and membership over season pass is a great thing and although I think we'll see a price increase soon...it'll still be worth it as long as we keep moving in the right direction
No, that’s the point, who ****ing knows? People do all kinds of mental things. The only wild assumption is yours, assuming you know exactly how every club in the country is collating their data.
That's the number I remember too. It must change periodically though. I'm pretty sure we must've removed a few seats in the NE corner fairly recently to create the space which is now used for segregation. It looks like what used to be a block of seats is now split in half.
You think they include staff, safety people etc. First time I read of the disparity between people actually in the ground and tickets was this article underneath. Which explained why there are empty seats at games which were sell outs. The operative bit being “under FA rules must publish an ‘official attendance’, which includes those who bought a ticket whether or not they actually went to the game.” That was over 10 years ago and the FA ruleshave not altered. Feel free to post a link to an article saying some clubs ignore FA rules and include staff, safety staff, ball boys, mascots or whatever. “ Crowds at Old Trafford are much lower than the official attendance announced by United on matchdays, according to new police data. Figures from Greater Manchester Police revealed under the Freedom of Information Act show the club did not have a crowd over 70,000 for a Premier League match this season, until last week’s derby with City. But United regularly announce attendances in excess of 75,000. The police data shows the average Old Trafford attendance is 10,000 fewer than the figures announced. The FOI request was lodged with Greater Manchester Police by Reds Away, which runs a travel and news website and blog for United fans. Reds Away said that United under FA rules must publish an ‘official attendance’, which includes those who bought a ticket whether or not they actually went to the game. Greater Manchester Police, however, keeps a record of actual numbers who pass The figures reveal a startling number of ticket-holders who do not show up. The figures show that 66,005 fans watched the first Premier League home game against Fulham this season, but the club said the attendance was 75,352. United announced the attendance at January’s clash with Southampton as 75,600, but the police figures show the actual crowd was 59,766 – a difference of 15,834. Barring the recent derby, the largest actual crowd for a league game inside Old Trafford was 69,933 for the Liverpool game in January. United recorded an attendance of 75,501. The data covers all competitions, including the Champions League. The police figures reveal just 33,409 watched the Capital One cup game against Newcastle in September, with the club claiming a gate of 46,358. The largest disparity was revealed at United’s Champion’s League game with Cluj in December. The GMP figures recorded a crowd of just 46,894, with the club claiming an attendance of 71,521. This year’s record crowd came at the ill-fated Real Madrid Champions League tie last month, where the police figures reveal 72,299 fans attended. The club’s figure was 74,959, 2,660 higher.
The thought they include staff is laughable. Anyone else and I would think such a daft suggestion was a wind up.
Attendance figures are notoriously inaccurate and that was the point that was being made, yet you’re fixated on picking out this hypothetical suggestion and making a mountain out of it. If you had ever had any kind of involvement you would know all these people are counted towards a venues capacity at an event whether they are paying customers or not. They have to be counted for safety/evacuation purposes and as your article states the police knew exactly how many people were there, so the clubs know what their attendances are yet choose to publish some bullshit random figure anyway. The fact remains you or I haven’t a ****ing clue how every club in this country is coming up with their attendance figures, all we know is they’re all wrong yet that didn’t stop you using them to bang on about your strange obsession with segregations. You’re the only sad pedantic old miser who gives a **** about these sleep inducing topics and irrelevant statistics anyway, so if you want to carry on arguing about it go and lock yourself in a room with a mirror. You’re worse than Syd.
You are a stupid ****. You came out with a load of **** and were proven wrong. Attendances given for football matches are those who buy tickets. Whether they turn up or not. End of. Not catering staff, stewards and anyone else in the stadium. They weren’t bullshit or hypothetical figures. They were what was required by the FA, how many tickets were sold. Not being pedantic. Just correct. Now **** off.
If it’s tickets sold they could announce the attendance at 3 o’clock..or when the ticket office closes!
Not at 3’o clock. There are pay on the day ones as well as passholders still queuing up outside because people can’t scan tickets or the machinery is malfunctioning. Has happened at City and elsewhere.
