Great to see Shawx and Huth back at CB, but TP has to do it doesn't he! Floodgate, out of form and confidence with very little game time under his belt due to an injury and played out of position at RB while a rested Wilko is on the bench? The result came good (which is all that matters) but why? When I saw the line up I gave him the benefit of the doubt and thought he may have been playing 3 x CB with Shotton and Wilson as wing backs, but no, true to form a lob sided back four! Anway, result positive role on Spurs!
We'll need to defend like we've never defended before, to get something against Spurs. They're playing wonderfully well at the moment and creating loads of chances every game. Bale and Modric are massive worries, both class players but especially Modric, he's something else.
You say Woodgate was out of form (which I agree with), but how do you expect him to get back into form if he doesn't play games? I'm not his biggest fan but I thought he was good today and did the job Pulis assigned him and, in hindsight, it was good management to start him as well. Who's to say that if we'd have started with Wilko at right-back that we wouldn't have conceded two or three? At least he didn't put Woodgate in the middle and shift Huth out to right-back again.
Like I said the resut was great, I just don't understand the logic of accomodating any CB at FB? Just my observation!
I must admit it baffles me on occasion Smithers, but Everton do hit a lot of long diagonal balls so I can understand why he'd want someone good in the air (like Woodgate) at full-back. I'm just surprised he didn't shunt Huth out there instead!
