I don't dislike him at all. He's had a good game. But all he had to do was dive the right way. Once he'd done that he was always going to save that weak shot.
He has to change it at H/T.....we need to score a goal and we have absolutely no cutting edge with this team.
What formation do you suggest? 5 upfront? We have one striker that looked good for about 10 games last season, but has been dropped since. Scoring goals has been a problem for more then half a season. It isn't a formation problem, it's a player problem. Puel lost his job because of the same problem.
I would actually say it's about the players as all of our forward players bar Long/Manolo are pretty static and only run when the ball is at their feet. I'd like to see a manager who would convince Tadić to make darting runs without the ball. And Redmond, Boufal and the rest are even worse than Tadić at it. Redmond for example looks rather mobile, but if you look closely he never ever makes runs into space
Doesn't matter if you have 1 player that can't score or 3. They all still can't score. We couldn't score last season so what do we do.. we sell a striker and don't replace.
I'd try and play to our strength, which is our defensive options. Basically go all out for a clean sheet every game and hope to nick a goal, until we can sign some forward players anyway. This is what I think Puel tried to do but the fans turned on him, so maybe Pellegrino has been instructed to be more attacking?
2 managers ,same problem , but yet we do **** all about it ! Well we bought Gabbi and then don't play him, work that one out!
Still, can't score if you don't have enough players attacking the box. Saw that against Palace 2 weeks ago. Davis followed in, ball came to him, and he scores. Not the only reason but it's pretty obvious it's not helping.
It is kinda funny that we sacked a manager for being negative and replaced him with an arguably even more negative manager.....
I just can't see it changing much. You have a unfit looking Austin, plus Gabbi who has hardly played.
No striker until January - exactly the same problem Puel had. Gabbi then came in and in 5 games saved our season. Les must bring in a forward player in January.
The board have to take the blame for this one. Although anyone who watched much of Alaves last season knew Pellegrino is very much a defensive manager so not sure why the board went down that route again after Puel, and also didn't sign one attacking player in the summer.
We need a attacking mid/ winger and a striker. If you look at the players we have in those positions they aren't good enough. I am starting to think we need a clear out of the attacking players we have.
I'd still go for binning the inverted wingers and moving tadic to the left. Might even bring prowse in as Stoke are sitting off so he will get the time on the ball. That alone would improve our delivery no end.
Of course we need to strengthen in January, and of course we had the same issues last season. But as I say, there's no point focusing on that now. The summer was the time for that, rather than people saying what a great window it was turning into etc. Between now and January we have to find a way to trying to get the best of what we have. And that simply has to include a formation that sees Gabbi starting, and not isolated. Even Puel changed formation in these opening months, prior to January.
