An absolutely torrid first half. Mistake-strewn performance with a complete lack of bite up top and lapses in concentration at the back.

We need at least two changes at half time. The two Jacks (Clarke and Taylor) need to come off - they’ve been absolutely useless tonight.

Stats on BBC show Stoke 9 shots 5 on target.
We have had 5 shots, none on target.

Is this because we lack a number 9 ?

Azon doesn’t do it for me. Spends more time on the floor than actually tracking back properly. Hirst has shown a bit of improvement in recent matches, but he’s also been miles off it this season.

I said it in January, and I’ll say it again, we lack a number 9. When we play this poorly, it’s hard to work out what the actual game plan is, but someone who can reliably finish would be an effing start!

Come on let's get this "can't come-back" monkey off our backs!

COYB!!

2-1 Town! Burns with a heavily deflected shot, but has the confidence to take the shot on. Game on! Only been a few minutes, but whatever McKenna has said at half time is having an impact.

2-2! The fight back is well and truly on. And fair play to Jack Taylor, who I don’t think has been good at all today, but he hits a beauty from outside the box.

3-2! Hirst scoffs at my whingeing about lack of a number 9 to put away a composed striker’s finish. Kudos to Kipre for the great through ball and Matusiwa before that for cutting out a Stoke counter.

It’s been night and day this second half. A considerable improvement. Let’s see it out.

That miss by the stoke player at 2 2 was unbelievable.

3-3! Soft penalty but lazy defending. Penalty wasn’t the greatest but crept in. That’s the problem when you go down 2-0 in a poor first half - no room for error really.

Two points dropped after that much better second half performance. Play offs looking likelier after these last couple of results.

Of course it would be a penalty against us after we were denied one on Sat. Feels like a defeat but considering where we were at half time, hard not being relieved at a point.

<doh>Hmm...what's more likely to influence the outcome, who posts the Matchday Thread or refereeing inconsistencies??

Well, what a rollercoaster that was. Sort of sums us up as team, with the inconsistency of not knowing which team will turn up. I fear that will cost us top 2 as those around us just don’t drop the points we do. Let’s see what Boro do tomorrow. As ever, onto Sheff Weds on Saturday and another winnable game.
