Just trying to fill the nervous hours .... You may have picked up the debate about over the top policing at football matches, tied in with jobsworth stewards. What are your experiences? Had been told that Everton were very strong on the seating policy, but saw no evidence of that. Police always seem good in Liverpool and Manchester as do stewards. This does not include Gtr Manc teams - Bolton are my benchmark for truly horrible stewards. Generally found Midlands generally good, but positively loath the stewards at Wolves. In London, find Chelsea a bit officious. As for whether it is better or worse than, say, pre-Hillsborough it is difficult to judge because as I age I presumably become less of a target. Views? (How long 'til KO?)
The most dreadful stewards I have ever come across was about 20 years ago at QPR. They were a private firm and their team leader was determined to pick a fight if anyone would rise to his baiting. It was an absolute disgrace. The most disgraceful policing I have witnessed as at Leyton Orient when we played them many years ago in a cup game. The match had been infiltrated by a lot of Wesdam fans and when the inevitable trouble erupted the police didn't hold back and joined in with some considerable enthusiasm.
One of the Millwall stewards accused me of taking a photo of him when I was taking a picture of the match action! He looked through the camera to delete the picture and was angry when he couldn't find any!I think he may have been a little insecure about himself!
