In all fairness people are entitled to their opinions, nothing wrong with having doubts about players who have just come in. Even if they do prove you wrong

SPL is not a strong league by any stretch of the imagination so I will worry about how he will cope with the Prem. I know it's the same with Bennett and Pilks last year but they were young, hungry players who were among the best performers in that league. Whittaker is 28 and I don't know if he is fits the "driven, determined, hungry" label like Bennett and Pilks

I am just stating that generally the better full backs are smaller in stature. I never said he was a bad signing, I just said he had characteristics I don't like i.e. he's Scottish and he's tall for a right back.

You are the person saying he is a worry defensively but still think he is a good signing, I am merely pointing out that there is a conflict and asking why you think so. I have made no comment as to how good actually is.

The point I am trying to make is if you think he is defensively weak you might try saying it properly instead of covering your arse by then insisting he's a good signing.

And yes I still don't think Pilkington and Bennett are particularly good because they can only do the easy stuff i.e Pilkington crossing from wide positions and Bennett passing into large open wide space. Probably two of the easiest things to do with a football. They might be effective at times but I don't think it makes them decent players. You like the long ball, direct and out wide stuff, I don't.

Disagree about Pilks and Bennett carrabuh, Pilks can run rings around fullbacks. He did against Ashley Cole already this season, although he did tail off towards end of season, but his delivery is brilliant. I think Bennett is a cracking player who works hard and can beat a player too and he helped Naughton out a lot of times this season just gone.

oh come on carrabuh, surely you don't need it explained to you <doh>

just because he has weaknesses in his game does not make him a bad player nor a bad signing. he is extremely versatile and can cover as many as 8 positions, he is quick, he scores goals, he makes goals, he is industrious and he's good on the ball. i would suggest naughton had similar attributes though maybe he was a bit better defensively, but still, a good player and an excellent free transfer. would have cost around the £4m mark normally, yet amazingly you can't wait to find fault. meanwhile, your comments re: bennett and pilks are completely baffling - totally ridiculous comments, just as they were last summer. no problem with people having opinions of players but to say all kinds of crap about players just shows you in a bad light. i still haven't ever quite gotten over your comments about 'monkeys' last summer and neither have many others - embarrassing.

Didn't really see them beating players regularly, only occasionally and crossing into the box an easy thing to do. Like I said they may be effective but it doesn't make them decent players. I really like Surman, he's not always effective, but I think he's a better footballer than Pilkington and Bennett.

Anyway, the issue discussed is the Rangers chap, I never said he wasn't a good signing, I have my doubts because Scottish football is about the same as League One and Scottish players are generally ridiculously bad.

beating their man and crossing accurately: an easy thing to do in the premier division <doh> pilks gave some top defenders a nightmare and bennett improved with every passing game.

i agree with you that scottish football is not the greatest but there is still a lot of pressure on these guys to win every week. he reached a uefa cup final as well lets not forget and was a key player during that run. if you want a world class right back at norwich you won't get one - but what we have got is a free transfer who can potentially do the same job that a £6m right back (naughton) was doing. you don't have to be the brightest to figure thats good news.

League One is full of monkeys, you don't need to get over it. I know it's true and probably the majority of the supporters who watch it would accept it as well, hell, half the Premiership is full of tat so they can't be that good.

I do seem to have to keep repeating the fact that you are the one with actual issues with the new signing, mine are just generic ideas.

I 've said many times before (on the 12 yards as you well know) that I don't have issues with Championship players.

What I really want though is some decent foreigners

I think they both beat players with pace quite often to be fair, and Pilks crossing can be brilliant at time, pin point precision. For example against Liverpool put it in a great area which neither defender could deal with. Agree about Surman on his day he can be brilliant, but think the other two are more consistent.

I agree SPL is poor, but he done really well for them in Europa League when they got to final in 2008, which isn't a bad standard at all. He scored a fantastic goal against Sporting Lisbon. Altogether free transfer and a player I believe will be number 2 at rightback, happy days. Incidentally the reason I say number 2 is because I remain confident we are after Danny Simpson

you said you worry about our new signing cos he's too tall and you think league one is 'full of monkeys'...

then you claim you want some decent foreigners, yet we sign one (who would normally be valued anywhere between £3.5-4m) from a foreign league (technically) and you're still not happy - i bet if we'd signed paolo whittako from juventus you'd be delighted simply cos he has an exotic name.

    you don't half talk a lot of ****e <doh>

"beating their man and crossing accurately: an easy thing to do in the premier division "

Didn't see alot of beating the man, crossing accurately he can do, but that is the easiest skill in football, even I could do that and I am ****. It's the short tight stuff which is hard, space, which is in essence what makes the Premiership such an easy league, theres ****ing tonnes of it.

Listen, if your going to say the Premiership isn't about expansive football played into space then there is little point in even bothering arguing with you. It is what sums up the Division as self labelled "most exciting league in the World".

It's why England are so shocking, the opposition force them to pass to the man, not into space.

Because they cannot pass to the man, they lose.

You say crossing the ball is easy, have you watched the euros were about one cross in twenty is good, crossing is becoming a lost art due to withdrawn forwards so a player/players who can cross should not be easy dismissed

Back to tall players and skill....There are some with a great deal of skill who are tall, but the classic full back and winger are small fast with a good centre of gravity, low to the ground. I donthink being 6 foot 1 is a problem as only 2 inche taller than drury and useful height if we need a center back one day. The funny thing is you always get freaks i.e. cannavarro 5'9" who was good in the air and one of the best defeners ever or Crouch who despite being huge is (in my opinion) better on the ground than in the air.

Nice to see Carrabuh bang on form <doh>

I think the quote "crossing the ball is the easiest skill in football" might be my new favourite <laugh> <laugh>

I think Pilks' cross for Holty's goal at Anfield was the best cross I have seen from a Norwich player in years and years and years, and for Carrabuh to dismiss him and Bennett as still not being good I'm afraid enough takes him to a whole new level of ignorance <ok>

I also have two words in this debate about whether tall, gangly players are mobile on the ball and full of silky skills...Robert Rosario <yikes>
