He had the opportunity to change his "voice" as technology advanced but declined. After time he said it became so familiar to him and everyone identified the Speak and Spell voice as his so a change wouldn't work.

Who would you have liked to have replaced Hawking's voice with? I think it should have been Rodney Dangerfield, he could have said stuff like "The Big Bang? More like Badda Bing!" or some such. Or James Earl Jones as Darth Vader.

Hawking clearly identified as non-gender specific so I would say a buftie voice would have been appropriate. Dale Winton maybe?
