You really like to put on that dusty pedant's mantle, don't you? In all that huff, you're in essence saying Gerrard is useful against teams that sit deep and poorly so. Great insight. I have no need to take heed at nonsensical warnings. You on the other hand, take my advice (won't claim is anymore than that): don't censure thoughts and erase threads that make worthy points and try to advance debate. And get a sense of humour whilst at that.
Yeah, because insight was what I was aiming for As for a sense of humour, from a Canadian...? PS...you don't want threads or comments removing then don't be a ****. Simple
1) Stop farting emoticons 2) Stop being a xenophobic tw*t. 3) Stop being a sneaky fascist erasing valid threads.
Anyone battling two DMs is in for a rough ride. In that case, BR has to have the team run more of our possession down the flanks. Stevie is as yet irreplaceable. Let's get off his back and rather think how to supplement him better.
So 43 from 52 or a success rate of 82.7% if you like. By no means the best records but still impressive none the less
It is a foul anywhere to impede someone like that in open play. Now different refereeing from a set piece. Refs let players climb all over each other squirm and climb and strip each other naked. Never understood how something is not a foul from a set piece if it is in open play.
You can bet your ass most of those misses are a LONG time ago. I'd like to know who's record you are using to base this opinion on Fat frank? Surely not dan sturridge!
Gerrard simply doesn't get in the positions to score from open play, simply because he isn't quick enough to get back to defend anymore and so hangs deeper. For me thats exactly what he should be doing, not seen one of his trademark bullets in a couple of seasons now, but as long as he chips in with pens/free kicks and assists then its all gravy.
Yup, wasn't a complaint, just thought was interesting. For someone known for his drive and trademark long range shooting just shows that his game has changed. He got 13 last year I think, so must have to go back to early last season for his last goal from open play (trying to think of the game/goal but cant remember).
I thought he had a dodgy first half today- a couple of good interceptions, but some erratic passes both short and long- improved in the second. It seemed like his head was somewhere else at times. However, some on here and elsewhere have been trying to write him off for a couple of years now and he keeps coming back to prove them wrong, so I'll reserve judgement for a while yet.
Le Tissier got 48 from 49. Shearer had a pretty good record too. Why so aggressive? http://www.uefa.com/memberassociations/news/newsid=1913517.html
The penalties side of the debate is quite boring. What is interesting though is why in any of his transfer windows Rodgers never went for a CM/DM that suits his style: fast, technical, daring. Can is a more a plan B type of signing - he's nowhere near as quick as BR's style demands. Gerrard (and Can, Lambert) are the odd men out. One reason could be he did try - but the scouts came back empty-handed. The other possible reason is - he wants Gerrard there, especially for the other traits and skills he brings on.
Said earlier today, Can is an odd one. The run to set up Sterling's chance where he took on the whole of Spurs' back 4, twice, before passing it to the keeper, Can looked big, strong and quick. I'd need to see him in a couple of full games to get a better opinion, but he was known for being a big powerful runner in Germany so maybe he is that type of player. Rodgers doesn't sign quick midfielders, that's left for the attacking players. None of Allen/Henderson/Lucas/Gerrard are quick on the ground, but being quick in the mind is far more important. the best players beat their man before they've even received the ball.
If either of those two scenarios is right it's more likely to be the first, because no matter how you look at it Stevie isn't going to keep it up for ever and we have to try to replace him.
